There are two things that can be done to get through outages. First is to add another project to your mix of projects that you are willing to crunch for. Currently the only other active one is http://predictor.scripps.edu/. They seem to have a better flow of work, although, they have a much smaller set of crunchers working for them, so they may have trouble when they get too many more.

The other is to set your queue to a few days. However, Predictor occasionally sends WUs with a deadline of 1 day, and S@H has a 14 day deadline. Any work that is turned in after the deadline may not get credit. BOINC will crunch work after the deadline, and attempt to turn it in.

Sounds good....but is anyone having any luck getting to http://predictor.scripps.edu/ ???? I get a "Page cannot be found" error when I try to go to their site.

This does not bode well..... :-(

I just think it is pathetic. This Boinc project just sucks. I never once had a problem with the older version. Why these rocket scientists tried to fix something that wasn't broken is beyond me!

IMHO Boinc truly SUX and is going to end the S@H project very fast if they can't get it working properly.

Same here. Looks like someone has filled up a file system somewhere.

At least I don't have problems getting data from the server. It rejects my account ID number, and BOINC shuts down.... When I go to the site I can login and check my stats etc with my Account ID.....
But guess that minor compared to what the rest is seeing.... I think I'll remove BOINC now, and go back to the classic seti. And when the classic no longer works, well I'll find myself a swimsuit screen saver instead...

Why putting everything on Boinc side? Did you looked at the server status at Seti at Home already?

As I'm reading this forums and posts, everything is about the same, everybody complains about BOINC.
I like it and I have a patient and I WILL WAIT FOR WU.
This is clear message from me for team in Berkeley.

Well, I will do the same, even if I have to wait for several weeks.
Why all this hurry? If there is no work there is no work. That's it. Just close the GUI, don't wait and wait and wait. Just start it over again in a couple of hours, even wait the next day and see what is happening.

Do the right thing! Go over to GRID.org and use those clock cycles to cure cancer!

BOINC bites...i have moved all my cpu to split grid.org and classic seti.

I agree... I will wait as well... Boinc is new, and while maybe it should still be in beta.. it seems to me that everyone is upset merely becuase they have no work units. I have just switched over to the BOINC program.. and downloaded 14 units.. they are almost complete and I hope seti is back up before I complete them,,, but if they are not... I will still stay with a project that I believe in,, and will not simply abandon them at the first sign of trouble.

P.S. I have had no problems with the BOINC so far... and my first set of downloaded units downloaded just fine with no problems.

BOINC should be renamed KER BOINC. I changed to BOINC to make full use of the hyperthreading capabilities of my CPUs. My email address had changed since I first started crunching 5 years ago (in November) so I had to create a new account. Bye bye previous total. Now with the new scoring system I have NO idea what the hell I have done and no I am getting no workunits. As I see from above, this is pissing many people off. Considering that many seem to be longtime users (I am in the 99% bracket of consistant users) we are the crunchers that SETI can NOT afford to loose.

I believe very strongly in this project and will be sorry to give it away, but that is what I will do if these work shortages continue. If I am going to be leaving my network running to crunch workunits, then I expect there to be workunits to process. I do not wish to waste energy resources for no reason whatsoever!!

SETI@home - 2004-07-20 02:17:45 - Deferring communication with project for 3 hours, 34 minutes, and 43 seconds and several more after this one waiting for units.

The homepage is pathetic. Did someone ask thier 4 year old child to design it?? And the lack of information is extremely annoying.

NOT HAPPY!!

And who programmed the stupid see saw display screen. What a dork!

The man from the land down under, I assume the land down under you allude to is Australia. What ever happened to the old fashioned Aussie laid back attitude of "Don't worry mate, she'll be right"?

Whinging is for poms. But you're not just whinging, you're lagging them in to their bosses, and lagging is such an unattractive quality (to put it nicely)and another thing Aussies don't do.

You people all need to grow up a little. Stop bagging the project for five minutes and have a little empathy for the people running the show. They have to deal with high end computational equipment and most of you will know that low end (being your desktop PC) is temperamental enough, now imagine the problems that they have.

The project is new, it's having a few teething problems. To expand on that analogy, imagine a baby is trying to walk for the first time, but because it falls down a couple of times you take it and dump it for other people to worry about because it's to much for you to bother your pretty little head about.

So to all those whinging and saying that your going to leave, either put up or shut up. God knows the rest of us can use the WUs.

Well,
This is what I would call a fair reaction.

At least there are still some people with common sense ! !
