I've been hearing about this and tired it out. It needs a little more work to make it a easier to find exactly what your looking for quickly but I still found my house in about 5 minutes.

As far as privacy concerns, others have offered similar services for many years now without the "concern" over privacy that seems to have erupted in the media over Google's attempt at offering satellite images. Lately I've been noticing that Google seems to get bashed somewhat by the media more often each time it offers something new. It's like they've become the Microsoft of search engines and have a large contingent of vocal critics that look for something to complain about because they are a successful company.

For some reason I do not get a satellite view. All I get is a standard map like those available from Maps on us or Map Quest.

Damn! If you're worried about this, you should be. Okay, sure, for most of us this is probly a nice service, and it might be cool just to see where someone lives, but just think about what you should be concerned about when it comes to your privacy. I mean it's already easy enough to get private addresses on the internet as it is. Now, not only is your address out there, but a nice picture of your house to go along with it as well? Yaba-daba-doo!

In the upper right corner your will see "Map - Satellite". Click on satellite and you will get the picture.

Just for grins, take a look at the White House and Capitol Buildings in DC.

Very cool. I can see my house from here! And, they're frighteningly accurate at pointing it out, too! (My address entered into the search box yielded a sattellite view pinpointing the house across the street, but still!)

I'm curious as to how old the images are, though. I think I saw a tree in our front yard that was cut down last fall. The website just says that they are current, but not real time.

I don't know about your house, but you really couldn't tell much about mine from the blurry view of my roof that the satellite sees. When I entered the address, it located and labeled the house correctly - and covered it with a the pointer. And there's a massive blob of multicolored something (a cloud, with prism effects?) hiding a good chunk of my side of town.

It's hard to tell, but I think I see a theater that burned down 14 months ago, and is now a vacant lot. Current is likely a flexible term.

Apart from that, though, it's a cool site!

Heh, you gotta be somewhat happy that blurry stuff doesn't show your house that good. I'm not in the states right now, so there's really no worry by me.

I hate to be a buzz kill but this is nothing new. Until relatively recently this had been a MapQuest feature for years.

Sorta Like Carolyn's Clinic in SETI/Classic... I miss the Clinic... and the meat balls of unknown sources....

I could find the lake my cottage is on (not enough zoom to see the building itself), my parents house and my apartment building. The pics of my building look sorta recent because of the level of construction on the 3rd portion....
