A thorough analysis of the Koran reveals that the US will cease to exist in the year 2007, according to research published by Palestinian scholar Ziad Silwadi.

The study, which has caught the attention of millions of Muslims worldwide, is based on in-depth interpretations of various verses in the Koran. It predicts that the US will be hit by a tsunami larger than that which recently struck southeast Asia.

"The tsunami waves are a minor rehearsal in comparison with what awaits the US in 2007," the researcher concluded in his study. "The Holy Koran warns against the Omnipotent Allah's force. A great sin will cause a huge flood in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans."

Silwadi, who is from the village of Silwad near Ramallah – the home of Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal – is not a world-renowned scholar. He said he decided to publish the findings of his research "out of a sense of responsibility because what is about to happen is extremely shocking and frightening."

His fear, he said, is that the world economy, which relies heavily on the US dollar, would be deeply affected by the collapse of the US.

"It would be fair to say that the world would be better off with a US that is not a superpower and that does not take advantage of weak nations than a world where this country does not exist at all," he added."The world will certainly lose a lot if and when this disaster occurs because of the great services that American society has rendered to the economy, industry and science."

Silwadi said his study of the Koran showed that the US would perish mainly because of its great sins against mankind, including the Native Americans and blacks.

"As soon as the Europeans started arriving in the new world discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, they declared a war on the so-called Red Indians, the legitimate owners of the land," he wrote. "Then they began enslaving and humiliating Africans after kidnapping them from their countries and bringing them to America. Millions of blacks were brought to the US and treated with unprecedented harshness. Those who became ill during the journey were thrown overboard to feed the fish."

Silwadi pointed out that the US continued to commit war crimes and "ethnic cleansing" against humanity by becoming the first country to use nuclear weapons during World War II.

"International law penalizes such crimes," he said. "If these laws were not applied then, they are certainly implemented in heaven. If no one on earth is capable of punishing [the US], Allah was and remains able to do so. All these actions have been documented by Allah in a big archive called the Koran."

Silwadi said he reached the conclusion that several suras (chapters) in the Koran that talk about punishment for those who perpetrate heinous sins actually refer to the US.

As an example, he quotes in his study verse 40 of the Spider Sura, which states: "So each We [God] punished for his sin; of them was he on whom We sent down a violent storm, and of them was he whom the rumbling overtook, and of them was he whom We made to be swallowed up by the earth, and of them he whom We drowned; and it did not beseem Allah that He should be unjust to them, but they were unjust to their own souls."

Drawing parallels between Pharaoh and the US, who share the same "sin" of arrogance and excessive pride, Silwadi noted that the Koran mentions at least 12 times the fact that Pharaoh was punished by drowning for his evil deeds.

The Narrative Sura, he noted, clearly suggests that the US will drown in the sea: "And Firon [Pharaoh] said: O chiefs! I do not know of any god for you besides myself; therefore kindle a fire for me And he was unjustly proud in the land, he and his hosts, and they deemed that they would not be brought back to Us. So We caught hold of him and his hosts, then We cast them into the sea, and see how was the end of the unjust [verses 38-40]."
Explaining his theory about the approaching extinction of the US, the scholar went on to analyze many numbers and letters mentioned in the Koran. He said a careful reading and analysis of words appearing in the Opening and Yusuf suras show that the US will exist for only 231 years.

How did he reach that number? Silwadi said that by combing a number of suras hinting at US sins he reached the numbers 1776 (the year the US achieved independence) and 231. He added the two numbers and the result was 2007, the year when the US is expected to disappear.

In his lengthy study, which is being circulated in many Muslim countries, Silwadi noted that the US has often been compared to a tree that grows very quickly and bears fruit, but has no roots.

In an attempt to find a reference to this metaphor in the Koran, Silwadi said he counted 1776 verses from the beginning of the Koran until he reached verse 26 of the Ibrahim Sura, which states: "And the parable of an evil word is as an evil tree pulled up from the earth's surface; it has no stability."

It sounds like more of the same anti-American bulls**t that is common in that part of the world.

Maybe Allah should punish this assh**e for misusing the Koran this way.

The problem is that the distance from San Franciso, California and New York, New York is 2563.5444218184634 MILES!!! That is ONE HELL of a wave!!! Now it IS true that the wave only has to go half way IF it comes from BOTH directions!!!
BUT that is NOT likely!!! The Koran is one hell of a document BUT it should NOT be read as GOSPEL, just as the Bible should NOT be!

ps that should liven up the discussion a bit!!

I believe a tsunami large enough to take out the US would also take out a great portion of the rest of the northern hemisphere, on both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. I don't believe that a tsunami that large could be caused naturally on Earth. It would have to be caused by very large spacial objects hitting both oceans simultaneously. Just my opinion.... I believe the article to be full of sh*t!

Oh great... Islam finally has their own version of the Jehovah's Witnesses. "The world will end in 1914 ... no, sorry, make that 1915; or was that 1918? perhaps 1920; definitely 1925, 1941, 1975 or 1994".

I have seen a similar chain of logic somewhere before:

Bedevere: (to a villager) So, *logically*...
Villager: (very slowly, with pauses between each word)
If...she...weighs the same as a duck......she's made of wood.
Bedevere: and therefore... (pause)
Villager: A Witch!
All Villagers: A WITCH

Well, I lived through the 'End of the World' that was supposed to have come in 1984, and I lived through many predicted apocalypses since then, like the desperately-worded spam that told me the Rapture was to be sometime in 1997 and if I'm not prepared to at least make sure I don't accept the "mark of the beast". I think I'll adopt another wait and see attitude for this prediction. Some say they only have to be right once, but I look at it like my odds of winning the lottery: it's astronomically long odds that it will ever happen to me at all, and stupid to plan on it.

Heck, I even remember an HBO special about Nostradamus (funny name that, meaning "Our Lady") that said there was going to be an attack on "New Babylon" sometime around the end of the century igniting a 27-year war. Hey, wait a second... :)

(gotta clarify: no, I don't actually believe in any prophecy. That was a JOKE. Like predicting a war will occur has ever been a long shot.)

There's something that comes to my mind.
I just remeber a trip to La Palma, Canary Islands, a few years ago.
When me and my girlfriend visited the Caldera de Taburiente, we had been told about the possibility of a tsunami wave having its origin on this island.

It's about a phenomena called massive flank failures of island stratovolcanoes.
There have been numerical modeling studies, forecasting a mega tsunami generation from postulated, massive slope failures of Cumbre Vieja in La Palma.

Quote:
Based on the interpretation of geological and volcanological observations on the island of La Palma, a subsequent numerical tsunami modeling study was undertaken by Ward &. Day (2001), postulating that a massive landslide, with a volume of up 500 cubic km, could be triggered by the next major eruption of Cumbre Vieja. The study concludes that the collapse of Cumbre Vieja's western flank would generate a destructive mega tsunami which would strike both sides of the North and South Atlantic. Waves of up to 50 m. in height were estimated for Florida and the Caribbean islands, and more than 40 m. for the northern coast of Brazil.

So, it could happen, but it's unlikely to be happen in the very next years.

Well, there is a subduction zone just off the coast of Oregon and Washington that many predict could cause a disastrous tsunami for the region where I'm living, and it definitely could cause a disaster for Seattle and Tacoma as much of both cities are on tideflats. Me living several dozen feet above sea level and a mile inland, I think I'll miss the worst of it.

Still, let's imagine how high a wall of water has to be to reach, say Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, a mile high at the base of the mountain and over a thousand miles inland. Can't really take that prediction at face value.

Maybe a couple mega-tsunami, global-warming, Day after Tommorrow killers can wipe out all the coastal states. Still, I wonder how having the United States then completely composed of red states and bomber/missile bases could really be Allah's gift to help Muslims.

In the 1600's, in Salem, Massachusetts, USA, one test of accused Witches was to put the individual on a chair at the end of a lever, suspending the person over the water. When dunked, if the person lived he/she was determined to be a Witch/Warlock!!!

I guess we ALL have to DROWN!!!

You mean the US still exists and the world hasn't come to an end yet...

Or is this some cruel sick joke to try and get me to come out of my millenium doomsday shelter...

I blame the Norweigans 'cause no one ever blames them for anything and we all know its always the quiet ones... :o)

You calling me a whore :o)))

Of course though I'd watch the guy with the machette but knowing my luck it would be a double act and the guy with the book would sneak up behind me...

Told you. It's the quiet ones :)

At least you know the intentions of the noisey ones. Most know the intentions of both the US and Islamic countries as they wear their hearts on their sleaves but who knows what the intentions of the man in the corner are?

Hmm. But wouldn't the tsunami sent by Allah to destroy America also kill many blacks and Native Americans as well? More reason why I think this is just a bunch of gaga.

What's also quite interesting and an often totally ignored or unknown part of this worlds history is that over a million peripheral border european people were taken over hundreds of previous years to the slave markets in Africa and into the Arabic and Islamic world.

There are the odd recognition of this in the islamic world but not really a true picture. There are a few graves of white female slave where they had been eventually taken as wives and been accorded the honour of at least being remembered on a tomb stone.

Seems odd that God would only punish White slave traders when history has so many Black slave traders also.

Interesting that Islam (and other religions and cultures) has a very special place for slaves yet denies its obvious contribution to the continuance and development of ownership of other humans within our shared heritage going back to adam n eve.

If over history we have as we are told migrated from Africa then thousands of years of Black slave owners have past.

But I guess history is written and remembered only to show us (who ever that is) in the light we wish to bask in.

If Allah is merciful it seems that we all have to forgive each other, black or white, this or that...

there is a strange anomoly here though where killing is concerned when done by god (or I guess by anyone) because if you argue against a religious arguement within the confines of its belief system (world view) then death of the body is not really killing but transforming or releasing that which is more valuable.. The soul.

In this way killing in religious terms is and can be seen as a positive and good thing. understanding this little item goes a long way to seeing where some religious people are actually coming from which whilst I do not agree with it is actually within their minds an act of goodness or love and even for the benefit of us...

In this way the arguement that Black Americans will also die is a mute point as I guess the arguement would go that they will be liberated and find a place in heaven or the like... They are being done a favour in this bizaar arguement of mine ;)
