Personal background
I'm a 45 year old Canadian metallurgical engineering life form living in Reno, Nevada. I have three computers up and running on SETI@home .. a Pentium M portable, which really does seem to do an amazing job, my wife's Pentium 4, and my old desktop croaker - a Pentium III.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The signal that we should send to E.T. is "Free chicken and beer". I figure any alien that has traveled the past 10 light years squeezing nutrient from a plastic tube up his nostril will hear that and instantly put his foot to the gas, tossing the Prime Directive or whatever else they may have into the E.T. version of the crapper. Once you get him earthbound, you can probably manage to get him to swap his spare antigravity device for a decent rack of barbeque ribs and a cheesecake or two. Maybe throw in a few other human technological marvels to sweeten the deal such as a Magic Eight Ball, some Sea Monkeys, a Chia pet, SPAM (the meaty kind, maybe with process cheese in it), and a black felt painting of dogs playing poker. Before you know it the planet will be swarming with aliens looking for human garage sales so that they can trade perpetual motion machines and zero-pollution energy sources for old Chevy hubcaps and used Tupperware. The possibilities are endless.
