Anyone else annoyed with the fact that the Live Bookmarks (RSS feed) simply has the following names:

Project News March 22, 2005

instead of something much more useful like

Project News March 22, 2005 - Back On-Line

or something to that effect. There is no contact information on teh website in order to tell someone about this issue - so if any of you know who to tell, please forward this along.

Just looking for a small headline of the news - not the bland and generic "project news" and date. The whole point of Live Bookmarks is that I can do a browse thru the link to pick what I want to view - nor force me to actually go to the site to see if I want to read the thing or not.

Thanks.

this would be better suited in the number crunching forum, but anyway

it only displays what's present between the <title> and </title> tags
this is something that would have to be changed in the generator, as at present, the title is only the date, and the admin submitting the news item would have to give a quick summary for it

LOL,LOL,LOL. Totally cracks me up that I posted this an entire year ago, and the very first person to reply....one year later.....says basically "that is just the way it is", LOLOLOLOL.

Serously how hard is it to paste in a worty title instead of the stupid date. What the heck does the date tell me about the article...NOTHING.

Guess what, I stopped using the RSS Feed...oh....about 11 months ago cause it took way to much time to visit every feed on here to see if I wanted to read the item.....

I'm still laughing that it took someone 1 year to reply , lolol. No offense, just really really makes me laugh.

i was doing a search for "RSS" and your thread was listed, lol

true that a date isn't very helpful, but how hard is it to paste? well very hard if you don't have that option, i don't know what the news entry interface is like, but maybe they can't change the title, maybe it automatically uses the current date/time as the title, if no thou, then i fully agree that something more descriptive should be used, most feed readers now display the date/time anyway, so the date in the title is pointless

Guess what, I stopped using the RSS Feed...oh....about 11 months ago cause it took way to much time to visit every feed on here to see if I wanted to read the item.....
well there are better readers availble now, such as SharpReader, which have an "email client" 3-pane layout

lol well i'm glad it gave you a chuckle, i only noticed the date after i posted

That's true, before I get too critical on them I suppose the interface they use may be limiting, but I doubt it, cuase I've seen a number of RSS feeds that do a splended job with description - especially store-ad type RSS feeds which list the item and price. I'll have to reinvestigate :)

if you're editing the actual RSS itself then yea, it's easy, but if you're using PHP for news then you cna't just edit the file, because it gets it's entries from a database, and then things get a little complicated

on the other hand, berkeley designed the interface lol, so if it's useless then they only have themselves to blame, i think they went ahead with the idea without really knowing much background about feeds or the web in general

the first generation of the site is a total mess, and the code is still being cleaned up, but that's a bit off topic lol
