Just downgraded from 4.25 to 4.13. While I had no problems whatsoever with 4.25, the interface was a bit clunky, and the "remote admin" feature was not very user-friendly at all. I'll wait for them to streamline the Boinc Manager a bit. You will be assimilated...bunghole! ![]() |

Hm, I'll check out the BOINCview Releases and read up on the new Port (although I'm pretty sure they already changed it to Port 31416 with V4.19 already) -- edit -- Just had to go back to V4.19 and uninstalled V4.25 again. Since the 4.25 is for Windows only, it would take me two different Versions of BOINCview to control my network simultaneously, that's a NoGo. I'll also stick with V4.19 until all platforms are supported with V4.25 ... ![]() |

One thing I didn't see answered anywhere is colum size and window position. If you manually exit the manager after setting things (file->exit) then it will remember your settings. I actually thought this had been fixed better, but I normally run the service install so there is no reason for the manager to run and I exit it whenever I get finished. > Maybe the best thing for all of us would be for BOINC to dump this dreadful > BoincMgr and officially adopt BoincView. ;) You're the closest to the truth. The point of the manager is a functional method of interfacing to the daemon. One has to be supplied with the package for people who want a working system out of the box. If the supplied manager doesn't meet your needs, then you're free to find one that does, or even write your own if you like/can. Third party devs can focus on creating managers, thereby freeing up the BOINC devs from that task. > Then the devs could concentrate on getting the daemon right. That's the idea. And not only get it right, but concentrate on core improvements and functionality. > A cross-platform version of BoincView would be nice, though. ;) And until there is one, there is the boincmgr at least.... |

Just tried to install 4.25 here at work. Lost all old information, luckily I had it saved elsewhere as someone suggested. Then it ignored repeated attemps to attach to a project, it let me enter the info but stayed in the same empty state. Unistalled, restarted, and reinstalled three times with the same results. Finally went back to 4.19 and copied old folder back over and everythings fine. (I also tried this after second 4.25 install with no luck)Don't have time to toy around here so I may try it at home only until its a little more install friendly. ![]() |

There was an odd bug that caused the new installer not to be able to detect the old installer in some conditions, I've patched the new installer so now it should throw a dialog box stating the old BOINC software has to be uninstalled before you can install the new BOINC. Sorry about that. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley My Blog |

Actaully I had uninstalled 4.19 before running the 4.25 install anyway. At least you fixed a bug but I'm not sure that's the one that caused my problem though. I'm going to try another install after a few people leave for the day :). I'll repost then in more detail if it doesn't work again. ![]() |

Just downgraded back to 4.19. No explicit bugs, but the sum of all frustrations in 4.25 has become so great that I am even prepared to overlook non-persistency of network access setting in 4.19... --- Everything is just A Question of Physics |

Just so there is a success story..... 4.25 is running fine here, just upgraded from 4.20. I vaguely remember 4.1x, and the graphics were a little nicer. I do miss the progress bars. But as I remember, it was kind-of windows only, and I think the new code is common across platforms -- which counts for a lot. |

> Is anyone running 4.25 on Windows 98SE? > I'll answer my own question. I install 4.25 after uninstalling 4.19 and the exiting WUs picked up running. A new WU downloaded. It hasn't had to do an upload yet but there doesn't appear to be any problems. |

I noticed something odd in the WU results that I've uploaded so far under v4.25. My throughput is reported at 999999999 bytes / sec for all of my uploads. Is this happening to anyone else? Luckily, the upload goes through just fine and the WU reports ok. |

I guess it's a matter of filesize and buffers. ;) Be lucky Neil ![]() |

Most of the complaints about the new BOINC GUI, and I share most of them, as in I don't much care for the new GUI either. However, I installed it and then I do all my work in BOINC View, columns sort, can be moved, and when you get the second computer you can manage it also with BOINC view on the first one (as long as they can "see" each other .... |

Hmmmm not sure if this has been noticed yet. Anybody else see a 1200 - 1800 point drop in their Dhrystone scores? Dusty ![]() |

The new client is designed to prevent Windows systems from 'optimising out' parts of the benchmarking processes which gives inflated benchmarks. This means that Windows systems claim credit more in line with other OS's. Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

I remember installing an alpha a while ago, and I noticed that a small window will appear from the BOINC system tray icon that showed the progress of the work unit. It would keep on doing this, and I found it really annoying. Is this fixed in v4.25? |

More likely they have put a short timer measuring how long the cursor is over the tray icon, and delaying the pop up for a short time. Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004.
