Personal background |
I was born and then I lived in a bunch of places (23 states and one foreign country (Venezuela). Visited 23 other states and 4 other countries (Canada, Mexico, Italy, Cuba - before Castro...yep, I'm old). I work at nuclear power plants and am going bald (hmmmmm...connection?) Nope...just old.
I have always been interested in space exploration and science in general. I was captivated as a kid when Yuri Gargarin flew into orbit and have followed the space program since. I've been to Cape Canaveral and saw the Skylab launch and of course to White Sands. I was in the Navy on nuclear submarines and spied on the Russians while they were spying on us. I am 2 weeks from retiring!! I love New Mexico and Las Cruces and will be traveling a lot.
I have considered going back to school to take courses that interested me but then I thought...why spoil a good thing...high school has gotten me a long way. But in any case, I can't wait to get home (working in Michigan now). |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I started running SETI shortly after it's inception but a succession of new computers eventually did me in and I quit after having problems with the SETI program on a new computer. I recently saw a reference to SETI and decided to join again. I think that there is a good possibility of sentient life other than on earth (not much left here!) and it will be fantastic when we discover them or they discover us (more likely I think). It probably won't be in my lifetime but it is nice to know that I contributed a tiny little bit to the effort to further our civilization...and it needs a lot of furthering!!
I think that the project is very worthwhile. More than that, I think that it, or something similar, is necessary if we are to survive as a species.
