| Description | This is the New Mexico SETI@HOME team.
</BR> New Mexico is a great place with so much going on. New Mexico is the home of many great Native American peoples including Navajo, Zuni, Apache, Hopi and many more. It is also the home of astounding scientific and technological projects. Some well known sites include the VLA (Very Large Array) radio telescope, Sunspot solar observatory, NASA's Tracking and Data Relay Satellite ground station (TDRS), Johnson Space center's White Sands Test Facility, and White Sands Missile Range. New Mexico is also hosting the spaceport from which Sir Richard Branson will soon launch commercial flights into space. </BR> The United States military also has some very important and impressive bases in New Mexico. In the southern part of New Mexico, there is a the famous Army Base at White Sands Missile Range where German scientists brought space flight to the US with many V2 rocket test launches. Part of the Missile Range is shared by Holoman AFB in Alamogordo, and it is the home of the F117A Night Hawk Stealth Fighter. The Navy also has a presence through the USS Desert Ship and High Energy Laser testing facilities. In Albuquerque there is Kirtland AFB, and to the northeast lies Canon AFB. </BR> Famous Rocket scientist Robert Goddard launched his first rocket in Roswell, New Mexico. Roswell is also known for the UFO incident of 1947. </BR> Artists of all stripes inhabit New Mexico's western spaces. Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu was the home of Georgia O'Keefe. Millicent Rogers lived in Taos, New Mexico and brought recognition and protection to native american art. Today, a thriving artist communities abound in both Taos and Santa Fe. </BR> Los Alamos, New Mexico was the site of the Manhattan Project in where a team of scientists led by Robert Oppenheimer produced the first atomic bomb. Los Alamos was also the birthplace of the human genome project. </BR> These are some examples of the many extraordinary and diverse people and projects in New Mexico. You too can contribute to a great project. What a great cause the SETI project is; it is life's longing for itself. We long to contact other sentient life. Help the New Mexico team in this effort and be a part of something worthwile. Everyone pulling together adds up to a very significant amount of computing power, so everyone's contribution matters.
