Again we managed to dodge another good sized storm cell here today so I had to go out and water the veggies this afternoon.

Now to decide on what to have for dinner while I enjoy the last 2hrs of daylight.

Cheers.

Winning on another rainy morning.

0.45" of rain overnight here, for the desert that's close to a flood, temp outside is 58F, feels like 56...

No sun and no clue as to what the weather will do next...

Meanwhile, recovering from an epic yesterday and reaping the rewards today. All long before Friday!

So...

We've had a repeated faffy chore lingering in a faffy mess since some equipment was changed some long time ago. The unholy faff was due to various bits and procedures subsequently no longer quite being 'compatible'...

There have been multiple (aborted) attempts to clean up and clear out the faff... But none ever were completed... Lots of dangly bits still dangling... Until...

Until that is come yesterday and I naively estimated "an hour or two" for a full fix...

So... My excuse is that the known parts of what was needed did indeed only take about an hour. It was the rats nest of herding together and coordinating all the rest of the unexpected bits that took x8 the estimated time!

Yep... I should have had my suspicions as soon as the very first QA test went awry... The planned-for implementation then became a game of a multiply iterative redesign to discover and accommodate the various faffy bits that really are needed to keep the system wheels from falling off!!

Big lesson from all that has been to not to trust known incomplete documentation...

Second big lesson is to always test that you really do get the expected results...

Today is a bit more relaxed watching/monitoring it all working!

I got very disappointed with my Vizio tv remote. It works as advertised. Vizio has pulled a fast one and put a just the very basics remote in the tv box. I was disappointed that it didn’t have a information button. So I went and got my at least 6 year old Vizio remote and see if it’s info button would work on this tv. It worked better than I thought it would. It is completely compatible and uses more functions than I knew.
I decided to connect my Sony Blu-ray player up. I just connected the hdmi cable and the tv knew what it was and could navigate the Blu-ray menu options with the ancient remote. The old vcr control buttons worked too.

Winning on a Thorsday morning as I get my brewroom ready for action before we endure a 5 day heatwave.

Time now for a coffee.

Two days away doing a "little"job.
Journey down was interesting weather wise - sleet, then snow, the fog, then rain, the sun , then rain; all in a 100 mile journey :-(
Job itself should have been quite straight forward, but..... Beautiful dado rails, which looked like wood - talk about fun and drill destroying :-( The the crawl space that some "kind soul" had blocked with a load of plumbing, so we couldn't run the cables.
Next along was the damaged fibre optic, declared DOA :-( (one of three cameras won't work until the new cable arrive)
Then a real glooper in the camera manual....... manual says they do IP over HDMI fibre, but reality says not - hours of time checking that one through to see what was what, turns out spec changed a year or so back, but the manual hasn't been updated yet. Thankfully plenty of alternate solutions available.
A lot of this was not helped by the patch plan that I said they needed to do urgently a year ago has fallen through the cracks between the now departed AV manager and the now in post AV manager (who has been off sick for a week or so - cause unknown).

Other than that last night's food was great, and the hotel didn't charge for parking (despite saying they did - I call that a win).

It's just bright and shiny on top of this mountain here Rob with 27C expected.

Well I got my brewroom cleaned up and cooled back down as well as getting my mad pumpkins watered so I'll enjoy a coffee break now before playing around with an old laptop or 2 until the heat becomes too much.

Cheers.

That sounds good for a few extra beers...

What is it with plumbers?... And manuals not being updated in keeping with the real world updates...?

Meanwhile, for my fun, the system is still cooking on the maiden run with the less-faff system...

Piece of cake? Or is potato??...

... Sometime later tonight or nightmares for the morning...

ps: HDMI over IP: Take care with the resolution and framerate vs bandwidth limits...

pps: Rereading, ooops... "IP over HDMI fibre": Sorry, can't admit to ever having seen or needed that thus far...

3-4-2023 at 2:20 PM - PST

About 25 Minutes ago, my Veneer at Tooth #9, (front upper left tooth), POPPED OFF - AGAIN!!!!! :-O

I'm going in to my dentist's office, Monday morning, to replace the Veneer with a FULL Crown to STOP
THIS NONSENSE of the DAMNED THING CONTINUOUSLY POPPING OFF!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I REALLY DON'T HAVE the money for a Crown!

TL

[Re-Posting Original Post, above....]

3-15-2023 at 4:21 PM - PDT

[UPDATE:]

Well, my dentist ran my insurance over the phone to Anthem Blue Cross. (A QUITE LIMITED Dental Plan....)
Anthem told them over the phone that, "...He is covered at full coverage, minus his deductible for a crown at
tooth number nine."

The last time I needed a crown was Tooth #3, (upper right, second Molar), AND Anthem DID NOT cover the
full expense, minus my deductible... In fact, after paying my $50 Deductible, and Anthem then taking the
dentist's billed amount, and reducing that to the 'Negotiated Rate', THEN adjusted the 'Negotiated Rate'
and paid ONLY $264 leaving me a balance of $465 for Tooth #3's crown.... This was MORE than several
years back....

So, I'm leery of what Anthem is telling the SAME dentist's office NOW. HOWEVER; IF true, then the
'To Be Billed Amount' will be $971 to Anthem, I pay $50 for my Deductible, and according to what
the Anthem Rep told the dentist, that's all I'll need to pay for Tooth #9's new crown. Armed with this info,
my dentist took impressions, and X-Rays of the area, and then replaced my failing Veneer with a Temporary
Crown. The X-Rays, Digital Images, and the Impressions were sent to the Dental Lab for creation of the
Permanent Crown. My Appointment to have the Permanent Crown installed is this coming Tuesday, the
21st. We'll see what Anthem pulls, or tries to pull for Billing at that time. HOWEVER; on the 21st, ALL I
will be paying will be $50 for my Deductible. (THEN the waiting begins to find out ACTUALLY what
Anthem Blue Cross WILL be doing in handling the Claim.)

NOW, unfortunately, this MAXES OUT my yearly allotment of $1K Annual Benefits. So, for my Bi-Annual
Cleanings and Annual X-Rays, (June and December), I will HAVE TO pay out of pocket for those services.
(Assuming Anthem holds true to their word, and that the Permanent Crown at Tooth #9 will be covered at
100%, minus my $50 Deductible.)

IF this all goes through as the Anthem Rep has stated, then for my Cleanings and X-Rays, (June and December),
I have a secondary 'Dental Discount Plan' through Aetna Vital Savings. This 'SHOULD' reduce those billings,
slightly, and reduce my 'Out of Pocket' expenses for those services. (AND, THANKFULLY, my dentist ALSO
accepts the Aetna Vital Savings' dental discount plan.)

TL

[EDIT:]

AND, the Aetna Vital Savings' dental discount plan is ONLY $75 a year! An expense well
worth the provided discounts in said plan! :-)

The guy who was involved with the Atari SIO was involved with USB, yep USB came from the Atari SIO, part of this is 3D printed...

And Windows has drivers for it, the USB on here is a Micro USB interface to an SIO interface like on a 810 or 1050 or such.

The maiden is looking very fine and fair and enjoying a good run. All without any hint of faff or whatever else. Fantastic!

Taking time to go through step-by-step tests has come true, beautifully! Nary a squeak let along any flash-bang clangers!!

... And, for encore, we've uncovered a few other fluffy bits that have long been lost in the old rust of perpetual too much rush.

At what point does a repeated job suffer too much hubris trailing behind repeated use of the Pareto Principle?...!

Thus! I've actually enjoyed a fun good day cleaning up a few years of mess accumulated for all the bits of the multiple "last 20%" that was left unfinished from previous attempts...

What a faff?!
