I take a Claritine tablet (antihistamine) before I go down to the river for a fish as that's where the mozzies are too then if they do bite me I never feel them. ;-)

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

I'm certainly in distracted pain in a couple of places that suffered providing multiple feasts! That ain't no ordinary swollen 'itch'...

Will be trying some oil for the lava patches and some beer oil for the mind :-P

Also, will be working on some "protection" for later today when out again at the same danger area...

If I've been caught by surprise I'll take an antihistamine after being bitten ASAP to also relieve the itches quickly, but that doesn't prevent some skin damage happening from scratching in between.

With all the rain that we've had here over our dry season I reckon that the mozzies will also be bad here this coming spring. :-(

Anyhow I may decide to have an early LLB on this sunny Sunday seeing as I have nothing else left to do on this 1st day of lockdown.

Cheers.

Now yes, thanks. I've heard of that combination.

As it happens, once bitten twice shy and all that... There's also going to be added Vitamin D in that mix also! (DEET external only!!!)

At least this time it ain't leeches...

(Was so surprised by that one that I collected a few samples of the creatures for identification. Weird creatures. All very diverse and rapaciously hungry...)

This is why I don't use insect repellents when fishing. ;-)

Though DEET is not expected to bioaccumulate, it has been found to have a slight toxicity for fresh-water fish such as rainbow trout[35] and tilapia,[36] and it also has been shown to be toxic for some species of freshwater zooplankton.[37] DEET has been detected at low concentrations in water bodies as a result of production and use, such as in the Mississippi River and its tributaries, where a 1991 study detected levels varying from 5 to 201 ng/L.[38]

A 2020 study analyzed the effects of DEET on communities of freshwater organisms native to Chinese waterways and found that compared to other commercial insect repellants, DEET was moderately toxic to aquatic organisms. The most-at-risk organisms were algae colonies which often experienced "significant biomass decline and community composition shift[s]" when exposed to DEET at 500?ng/L.

Very good comment.

... But I very definitely ain't fishing!!!

Unfortunately, there is a pharmaceutical chemical works, a sewerage farm, water treatment works, and noisome drainage ditches, all all far too close for comfort...

There's also three suspiciously stagnant (untreated) water tanks there...

One where I'm very glad to not normally be being in that vicinity!

We really need to impose the requirement that all 'man-made' chemicals be (in a timely time) biodegradable...

Still kicking here. It felt very real as the tiger thundered past my right ribs. I swear it did. Lol. Dreams. Fell off the toilet dodging a tiger in his sleep. I just have to remember not to sleep in there. Falling out of bed is still the worst.

[Update - DISH Network and U-Verse Internet:]

So, FINALLY had a good conversation with a Level 2 Phone Tech at DISH. After,
having performed an Internet Search on "Problems with DISH TV on Hopper and
U-Verse Internet". Found in my search, ONE U-Verse customer, from several years
ago, who claimed that DISH installed a device called an "HIC". The Level 2 Phone
Tech confirmed that "Yes, a HIC, (Hopper Internet Connector), 'can' be used in
situations like this." He also informed me that his personal setup at his home is
'ALMOST' identical to what we have in our home.

We have 4 Wireless Joey Boxes connected by Ethernet, (Cat-5), to Linksys
AC1300 Velop MESH Nodes throughout the house, and 1 Hopper 3 DVR.
The DVR is located in my 'Office' in the reclaimed attic space above our
garage. The U-Verse Gateway, (an NVG-599), also resides here.

The 'Main' Linksys AC2200 Velop MESH Node/Router resides in this
'Office' space, too, connected by Cat-5e cable to the NVG-599. Connected
at the second Ethernet Port at the Router Node is a Cat-5 going to 2 Daisy-
chained Netgear GS-108 8-Port Switches. Three Residential Vonage Devices
are connected by Cat-5 to one of the Switches.

NOW, the HIC is connected to the Home Run COAX Line from the DISH
Satellite and by Ethernet, (Cat-5), to the 2nd Switch. Then, input/output
of the HIC is COAX connected to the Hopper 3. This alleviates the need
to Ethernet, (or WiFi), connect the Hopper 3 directly to the Router, then
to the Gateway; thus, ELIMINATING the Hopper's desire to 'disconnect'
from the Network NIGHTLY and randomly assigning itself an INTERNAL,
NON-Routable IP Address of 169.x.y.z.... So, NOW, in theory, the HIC
provides 'STABLE' Internet connection and Network connection.

One drawback to the HIC is that it is 100Mb, NOT Gigabit like the built-in
Ethernet Ports on the Hopper 3. This drawback is MINIMAL; however, as
the Wireless Joey Boxes, (connected by Ethernet to the 'Child' MESH
Nodes), are also at 100Mb. So, NO real loss here.

In an effort to eliminate ANY other potential issues, the DISH Technician
who came to our home, yesterday, ALSO replaced the Hopper 3. So, NOW,
we 'SHOULD' have FULLY STABLE TV Service. ALL of this because U-Verse
Gateways from the NVG-599 through to the 5268AC Gateway are 'KNOWN'
to have issues with DISH Network Hopper Units - going all the way back to
the Hopper 1.

The question remains, WHY weren't we offered a HIC MONTHS AGO by
DISH Phone Tech Support!!!???!!! I was asked SEVERAL times who our
Internet Provider is, and after informing them, (again, several times), that
we are on U-Verse, 'what Gateway do you have?'; I informed them, EVERY
TIME, that we have the NVG-599. (The 599, (according to U-Verse), is
electronically and mechanically IDENTICAL to the 5268AC.) So, we
SHOULD have been offered the HIC MONTHS ago to clear this issue.... :'-(
VERY POOR customer service on DISH's part.

The LONGEST Network Connectivity we had on the original Hopper 3 was
6 FULL Days.... SO, I'm hoping to God, (and praying to God), that we break
that cycle and make 7 Days of Full Connectivity and NO MORE issues
keeping connectivity between the Hopper 3 and the Wireless Joeys. IF
this all works out, our troubles 'SHOULD' be over! :-)

(Pray for us, PLEASE!!!!!)

OH, and why NOT change Internet Providers, you may ask???? Because the
ONLY alternative is COMCAST!!! COMCAST 'shares' the connection between
one's ENTIRE neighborhood, thus causing slowdowns in speed during Peak
Times of day.... Whereas, U-Verse IS DEDICATED to each customer. Further,
with the Linksys Velop MESH Network, on WiFi all the computers in the house,
regardless of distance from the Gateway, NOW receive FULL speed from the
Gateway. So, I can SpeedTest.net Test at 9AM, 12PM, 3PM, 7PM, and 9PM; AND,
at ALL times of day, receive 50Mb Speeds at ALL locations in the house. Even
further, I tested our 50Mb connection by DL a 20GB File-set from Blizzard for
StarCraft:Remastered, and while I CAN DL that game in 5-6 Minutes; COMCAST
XFINITY BUSINESS 200Mb DL the SAME game in 20 Minutes! Plus, our
Internet, in over 11+ years of service, has NEVER gone down.

+1 Day on DISH with NO issues....

:-) :-D

(The HIC is working, so far.... When I get to NEXT Sunday without
issues, I will declare the matter resolved, permanently. The longest
this installation has stayed functional, (before the HIC), has been
6 Days.... Next Sunday will be the determining factor.)
