Message 2003197 - Posted: 19 Jul 2019, 0:46:10 UTC - in response to Message 2003187.

The part I took away from the BOINC videos was from the first part by Kevin Reed who show charts from BoincStats saying we have been losing participants regularly since 2014. And the trend has not been improving. Less and less processing power to process ever increasing amounts of data. Not looking good at all. And nothing from the committee indicating any progress for stemming the continuing losses.

Hopefully they will improve the server situation and WOW can give it a good test. :-)

Methinks WOW will break S@H for a while as it always has done.

. . Thia always surprises me because all you have to do to be part of WOW is register and there is no NEED for any increased impact on the servers. But very competitive individuals begin to do lots of things to gain falsely large numbers. It starts from those who dig out their old disused hardware and fire up everything except the kitchen sink (unless it has a GPU too) through those who play the "bunkering game", somehow managing to 'save' their results from days or maybe weeks before WOW starts them dumping them all on the servers in a massive hit when WOW begins. That is the one that probably breaks things ... :(

It's not a problem that is caused by us regulars Stephen, it's the many problems that are caused by a lot those who arn't regulars here hitting the system up hard and then leaving work unfinished in limbo that takes many weeks (more like a couple of months) after the event to clear.

All that stress on the servers over all that time (say 3 months in all) usually breaks something (if not several things) and that is the reason behind some of us regulars' views on this to us "Pointless Event" and that's not to mention the spamming of others Inboxes and emails. ;-)

Cheers.

. . I think the only reason some us get spammed with WOW messages is our status in the team. I don't think such emails are sent to everyone (?)

Thanks for the details on this thread and others. I was getting excited seeing the Results out in the field way over 5 million. I now understand this is just a WOW anomaly.

Good Luck to those of you who participate.

Bloomin' heck, it's still 24 days, 11 hours and 44 minutes until it starts. That's a bit heavy on the pendings.

And some still wonder why I don't enjoy this time of year and the stupidity that this pointless event brings.

Bad luck if they break something serious just at kick off time.

No cheers here on this subject.

Pendings on the rise.

Me thinks they think they are playing for sheeps stations lol.

Yes you are all right, they have started this way to early.

Scratches head and crunches on.

Cheers
