Thanks for that. Good to see an interesting well written article. (Nicely refreshing compared to the usual sensationalism journalistic dross!)

Very good to see that the virus mechanisms are being unravelled.

However, note that although interferon can help with an existing infection, there are going to be some killer side effects for trying to use it Trump-style on the general population!!


Hopefully, one positive from this pandemic is that perhaps academic research becomes better valued by everyone, including the science ignorant politicians.

The improvements in medical technology and available therapeutic drugs can affect the magnitude of an epidemic or pandemic, it is mainly behaviour that affects the shape of the curve. What we do not have is data for the 1918 or 1968 outbreaks is any evidence for those illnesses using 2020 treatments, but we do have some indication of behavioural inputs.
It would appear that the 1968 outbreak had a fairly low morbidity rate compared to either the 1918 or COVID-19 diseases, so all we can realistically do is compare what impact behaviour factors have on the SHAPE of the curve and then use today's death rates to give some idea of what the likely outcome is going to be.

That's what I thought. 2020-1969 = 51 years and still none. So all this talk about how advanced our medicine is and orders to have a Covid-19 vax by the end of the year are hogwash.

The question is: How long did it take to arrive at these vaccines?
