Message 1988762 - Posted: 4 Apr 2019, 18:00:19 UTC - in response to Message 1988713.

Day 4 of this cold. I don't like missing so much work. Should I go in and risk passing this cold or should I stay away and burn another sick day?

Carlos,

Here in the UK anyone who works with people at risk of suffering FLU (old, ill, young, enclosed, broad) has the right to free yearly FLU jabs.

Otherwise time for: Mild tea with ginger, honey and cardamoms.

As long as you feel able to work AND your company doesn't mind the rest of the workforce becoming ill I say go to work.

The idea of a certain amount of sick days is foolish from a company's point of view if the illness is communicable.

Call their bluff.

Let them send you home and don't let them treat it as a sick day.

The problem with wearing masks is that they do help stop the spread of some diseases but they also can be a harbour for some virilant types that you rebreath.

Also unless you are wearing a gas mask with activated charcoal it is unlikely a simple white fibre mask will stop viruses. More likely they just filter and allow the strongest viruses to pass out and in??

If you are suffering flu then I suggest it is not so much an illness but a natural part of anybody's life. It happens. (Not that that concept really helps with certain company's) :(

Ask your doctor for the flu jab.

The US must have a free FLU vaccination scheme?

Seniors and disabled people in the US get a free flu shot if they have Medicaid(Medi-Cal in CA) and/or Medicare, for those not covered by Medicaid and/or by Medicare would have private insurance which might pay for it.

When I get a flu shot I go to the local pharmacy and get one there, Vons is the nearest with a pharmacy inside and they have an electric cart that I can drive around in, so I go there, but forget about shopping there for food as their prices are the highest in Barstow CA. Staters and Vons are both on Instacart which does work and does deliver, but $99 a year I can't do right now.

My local Food4Less does not have a pharmacy, drat, though they do have a gasoline station w/a standing $0.10 off per gallon of fuel when one gets at least 100 reward points, this will lower the price of purchased gasoline or diesel from $3.459 to $3.359 a gallon, I can even find out the current prices at Food4Less.com, but not order there yet, the server has an error 403 problem when one wants to see or go to the cart to do checkout, so at best I at least can printout a list of what I am going to buy, complete with Boxes to check and the quantity desired and where the item(s) is(are) in the store.

I have an excellent medical plan. I did get the flu shot. This is just a lingering cold.
Problem is that I run my department. So I would be the one to tell someone to go home.
Besides 80% of what I do I can do remotely. So I have been working. Sucks working and using your sick days. I will be going in tomorrow. Just too much built up that needs signatures, Mine and others. Oh and yes I have taken medication for the symptoms. No I have not gone to see a doctor. I know this is a cold that has been going around the office. Just that I almost never catch them.
Now I bet Angela will post over me just to rub it in.

One of probably 101 varieties, yeah the cold is not so common, though catching it is.

I know most people know what a u-haul moving van is. But how many have taken a look at the side and seen the various “Super Graphics” applied to them?
