AMD Teases First Navi GPU Products: RX 5700 Series Launches in July, 25% Improved Perf-Per-Clock AnandTech crew are guesstimating a "275mm2, give or take a few percent" die size, so I guess we'll have to compare it to the 1660Ti to see what improvements 7nm brings in relation to 12nm. So I guess price could be as low as $300 (dare I say $250 even?) if AMD want to disrupt the market instead of just tier themselves into it (which is what nVidia usually does). To put the nanometres into perspective a 2080Ti is 754nm, so AMD are obviously not trying to compete with nVidia's high end. Not with Navi anyway. |

AMD Announces Radeon RX 5700 XT & RX 5700: The Next Gen of AMD Video Cards Starts on July 7th At $449/$379 https://www.anandtech.com/show/14528/amd-announces-radeon-rx-5700-xt-rx-5700-series First impressions/thoughts: a) mucho dinero b) pricing does not appear to be disruptive for the GPU landscape c) Watts maybe a bit high d) tiny die size @251mm2 e) competing with Nvidia xx106 type cards The big unknown is how the new architecture will play with SETI. But I'm going to guess Navi will have a really tough time competing with the 1660 Ti at these prices and power consumptions... Wonder how long Nvidia is gonna wait to make the transition to 7nm. |

Wonder how long Nvidia is gonna wait to make the transition to 7nm. Probably a while since they won't feel any pressure from the marketplace. Stand pat with what they have. No need to invest in the cost of the 7nm process node. They have limited foundry access capability as TSMC is already fully committed to Apple and AMD. Their only recourse is Samsung. The Nvidia Super cards get announced and released on Tuesday the 2nd to steal some thunder away from the Navi release. Think that will move the older 2070 and 2080 cards down the stack at reduced prices to make room for the Supers. Think that is why vendors have been pushing special deals and prices recently on the existing inventory of 2070 and 2080 cards to make room for the Supers. The reduced prices for the older 1st generation of 2070's and 2080's will compete better on price against the new Navi cards. It's sad my two Lenovo Y560 laptops have fans at the far left edge and finding raised cooling pads with fans able to reach the cpu vent to actually blow cool air into it is nearly impossible for the price I want to pay. Life's short; make fun of it. |

The two cooling tables I bought both had very wide holes for blowing the air up. If you can find a table that will even partially overlap the bottom vents it should help. Nvidia doing what they do best, slotting their performance into the existing price structure :) Meet the new "super" cards (still on TSMC 12nm "FFN") AnandTech: https://www.anandtech.com/show/14586/geforce-rtx-2070-super-rtx-2060-super-review YouTube Gamers Nexus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5-vCnUC7bM Hardware Unboxed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGpzf0uHuCc Linus (ft. Have you tried undervolting? It did make a difference on my HP Pavilion but I've also stuck higher rubber "feet" underneath. |

Haha, good work kissagogo! Silly me, the name sounded so familiar I was sure we were talking about a newish gaming laptop. Not a 9 year old one :P Johnny I'd go the kissagogo route. Clean 'em up and re-apply thermal paste. If you can't be bothered and only want to crunch on them try a ghetto fix: Tumble them over on their sides (like you would if you spilled water on them). That should keep them cool enough to not shut down. Save space and money :P (I wouldn't throw good money at this problem) |

Still contemplating. My new system, which will sport one of the new Ryzen Gen 3 CPUs - if it's available here possibly the 16 core 3850X - but what could I best put in it for a GPU? It's going to be my new gaming rig, I run Seti solely on my Android devices. I was thinking about the Radeon VII. I know it's expensive, but then the whole system is going to be A rated this time (that CPU isn't bupkiss either). |

Since I believe you are going to stick with Windows and thus not have the special app available, the Radeon VII is the top notch AMD card. At the same price point would be the new RTX 2080 Super. That cpu is probably total overkill for normal browsing and gaming but is for sure "future-proofed. If you think you might ever be tempted over to the "dark side of the force", the RTX 2080 Super gives you the ability to eventually run the special app while the Radeon VII does not. Like I said, the rig is going to be primarily for gaming. I may run Seti on it for a short time to see how quickly it gobbles up tasks, but it's not going to be continued for long. I agree that that CPU is total overkill, and I will only go for it if it's available. Else I may step in with a 3700X. That was my first CPU of choice anyway. 😄 |

For gaming, it totally depends on your monitor. If you are talking 1080p I'd buy something a lot cheaper right now. AMD: 570 or 580 for peanuts, or maybe wait for Navi. Nvidia: I wouldn't bother with the 2060 personally. One of the 1660s would be better value for money. But that's 1080p. What resolution, refresh rate? And which games? |

Got two 4K monitors, one Samsung, one AOC, although neither are gaming monitors. I might spend some more on a 2560p 144Hz monitor, but may wait a bit more as I've seen there's 200Hz already as well. Games? Well, at present my system is having trouble with Deus Ex Mandkind Divided, and the latest TombRaider. It has no trouble with large environment games such as Ghost Recon Wildlands and The Elderscrolls Online. I do want to buy the new Ghost Recon coming in September. Having seen the trailer videos I'm assuming it'll need something beefier than what I have at present. :) I do need an even bigger desk if I am going for a 3 monitor setup. :) |

Jord, you are a better man than I. My OCDs would never let me have 3 different-looking monitors side-by-side :P But yeah, at those resolutions and refresh rates and the brand spanking new games you're playing it DOES make sense to be looking at the top of the (GPU) line :) (Meanwhile, I'm trying to get through Mass Effect 3) PS. YouTubers seem to really like the new ultrawides. Might be something to consider if you haven't already. |

(Meanwhile, I'm trying to get through Mass Effect 3)That was a fun game. I'm still busy with the one following that, Andromeda, but at one point lost the will to continue grinding. PS. YouTubers seem to really like the new ultrawides. Might be something to consider if you haven't already.Well, my OCD is that I hate those web sites that put everything in the middle column only, you know how much white space that gives on those ultrawides? But yeah, I was talking about one of those when I said 2560p monitor. Like that 200 Hz Asus that Linus tested. Although I see 3440p UWs for far less. All 5ms though :( |
