Plenty doing cargo these days, indeed I think there are still a few b747-800 being converted to b474-800(BC)F. Plenty of life in the old girls yet.
For those that are interested,
Here’s a look at how many 747s remain in active (passenger) service and how long they are likely to stick around.

Do away with the forums?! Are you mad!?
There are a few people out there that their social circle is this circle. And I am one of them. I live alone with barely any social interaction outside of work. So I am happy this site is still up and people are still posting.

The best friends of mine i met here at seti.
I startet to meet seti friends in real life 2007.
Some are good friends now.

With each crime and every kindness we birth our future.

Boeing as of last June still had 15 orders still to fill for new 747-8F's so the silhouette will still been seen in the skies for a long time yet.

But as a passenger jet running costs got the better of it as with a fully seated load a 747-400 fuel costs are $90us per seat per hour and getting a fully seated load was a big problem (which is why the Airbus A380 turned into such a big flop) and is why many airlines around the world turned to the slightly smaller twin engined 777-300ER's where fuel costs dropped to $40us per seat per hour.

Cheers.

That was why the kit was moved in the first place.
Crikey, someone is losing his memory.

The move was made to the Colo as a larger internet connection to the world was needed as the 1 attached to the closet couldn't handle the load any more and wound up being swamped regularly before the move.

That type of connection is not required now so it makes good and economic sense to move it back into the lab. ;-)

Cheers.

Well everything is working normally now. I hope there will be a new seti project soon. In the great big scheme of things 20 years is nothing. And even though the likelihood of ET magically turning up as a result of seti@home searches I still think the effort is worth it.

In a nutshell: UAVs, not UFOs, says Professor Simon Holland after a competent technical review of the reports.

Even more, as an added bonus, he's funny as hell.

NAVY release UFO documents - Prof Simon breaks down the "secrets", hiding in plain sight, contained in these de-classified documents.

‘Alien-like’ creature resembling E.T. discovered in ancient area of Pacific seafloor
The “E.T. sponge” has been classified as a new species and genus, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said Thursday as it announced the discovery.

The creature was found in “an extraordinary seascape” 7,875 feet down, where strange looking creatures appeared to be growing from the rocky seafloor, NOAA says.

Edit to add link to a hi-res photo of the sponge

Feel like Alexa’s listening to you? This new gadget could stop it
Alexagate is a device that sits on top of your Alexa or Amazon Echo and jams the microphone from picking up your voice, according to the machine’s creator MSCHF.

Or one could not buy anything Alexa and spend the money elsewhere, like on a iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner, which one day I will buy, just not today.

There's one person that had a fantasy in 2015 that came true.

But that would be political so not going any further.
