It certainly won't hurt to install that. I likely better if you do. It's how the kernel talks to the CPU. |

Almost certainly the only benefit the microcode update will offer is the mitigation for the Spectre/Meltdown vulnerabilities. But also board manufacturers also update their microcode for their products occasionally and those fixes migrate eventually into the general Linux distributions too. You would need to look at the microcode update documentation to see if there is any "showstopper" issue that it resolves and that would then benefit your updating. I generally think that the microcode updates are the most verified/vetted of any update in any distribution since it affects all hardware at the base level. So generally can be thought of as "safe".
