after you exhaust your current cache. i would totally uninstall the repository version of boinc that you have. this version is "all-in-one". you don't need the repo version at all anymore with this. you can of course, still keep the repo version, but you will need to cherry pick out the relevant executables and config files and drop them in the correct directories, and make permissions changes to them so they work correctly. using the all-in-one is a lot easier in my experience. You shouldn't have to mess with symlinks. But you can always Google symlinks to read up on how to create them. Pretty simple. You need to finish all you repository version of work and remove the repository version of BOINC before you start using the All-in-One. TBar says the repository version always causes issues when trying to upgrade to the AIO. You might want to first move the repo location of BOINC to /home first and take possession of it away from BOINC:BOINC and change to you as user. Makes things so much simpler if you are the owner of the directories and files. Hi Keith and Ian, Ian, I'm responding to you as well as Keith in the response to Keith. :) I found out how to create symlinks and hard links. Since the file was already in the directory where I wanted the link to go, it erred. I'll leave it as is now. Let's see, once I have emptied my cache, for the third time, go to the supplied link and go from there. Gotcha, I hope. ;) Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. The link provided is a direct hard link that will download the file. Unpack and read the instructions. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

You laugh, as you should do , and are meant to do, on April 1st. But I can imagine one poster that would be considering a gofundme to buy one :-)) You could always take a look at a dual cpu EYPC..... (sp) A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

RAC seems to be dropping...is it the lack of APs to boost RAC? (We had quite a surge in APs for a few days, and I had daily credit in the 100,000+ range on each of my 2 crunchers for the first time in a very long time). |

I don't touch toytown AMD stuff. Why don't you unhide your computers so we can see what you are talking about. CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. We have had a non-stop supply of AP tasks for the last 3 months. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I keep wondering where they are coming up with all the GTX 1060 chips to build all these GTX 1060 cards. The only Pascal cards available from EVGA. Is this still them trying to work off the over purchase of chips during the mining craze? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

i got a white sheet some where from nvidia... anyhow they force all the card makers to take nvidia stock of chips to.(yes they had their own for the mining crazy) that where their getting chips from. they where force to . other wise they lost some rights for chips in the future. also if you wondering their was a news story on this. but barely got a blimp. |

Yes, I know they have pretty draconian contracts with the AIB partners. HardOCP did an expose a few years back on the shenanigans Nvidia pulls with their board partners regarding minimum chip purchases and strict marketing rules they have to obey. You can get very reliable used gtx 1060 3GB cards for about $130USD on eBay. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

An interesting technology read- Digital Archaeology. ...a link to a folder labeled “Miscellaneous CompuServe Drive Images†on archive.org was brought up by Jimmy himself. He had been unable to extract any data from it and encouraged others to give it a try too. This was just too good to pass up. I downloaded the whole 33 GB archive myself and the journey began. A mind boggling amount of information at Anandtech on Intel's plans, products & other stuff, with in depth writeups by Ian Cutress. One interesting product with one of the new CPUs is Optane as DRAM support. With the high-memory compatible processors, users can add up to 3.0 TB of Optane DCPMM to 1.5 TB of DDR4, to give 4.5 TB of total memory per socket. In this configuration, the DDR4 acts as a buffer/store in front of the Optane, which hides some of the increased latency, but ultimately it means that larger in-memory databases can be used per socket. Maybe they' like to donate a system or two to Seti to give them a good workout? Grant Darwin NT |

Storage Review actually have a system with Optane Persistent Memory that they have run some initial benchmarks on. Supermicro SuperServer 1029U-TN10RT quick look. Grant Darwin NT |

I don't touch toytown AMD stuff.Incorrect. There were many a time when you extolled the superiority of ATI & in fact ran with numerous ATI Radeon HD cards. |

I understand that. But they did seem to peak even more towards the end of March, when I got 3 or 4 days in a row on each of my crunchers of 100-110K RAC. As I said, the first in a very long time. Now they are back to mid-70K each. I know there have been problems the last few days, but I didn't have problems getting work for the most part. |

p.s. ATI Technologies Inc. (commonly called ATI) was a semiconductor technology corporation based in Markham, Ontario, Canada, that specialized in the development of graphics processing units and chipsets. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) acquired ATI in 2006.Which was before you acquired those Radeons making them "toytown AMD stuff". :-) |
