Thanks for the detailed explanation Keith, I'll give it a shot when I have a chance. My goal is to end up with a screen like you had posted above.I do it with three mouse clicks. 1) browser shortcut opens BOINCstats on projects tab, as Keith says. 2) on the SETI@Home line, it shows my current world position as being 199. Click on that number. 3) That shows SETI users, on the 101-200 page. My name is highlighted in green. 4) Click on the bicoloured diamond (green up, red down) towards the right hand side of the highlighted line. And there's the stat. |

Here's some info on how changes to Tariffs are affecting pricing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOxz5Tc-YRs |

Now there is a full list of 50, and I see that a lot of their RACs are in the millions.. WTH? which projects can use ASICs? and what ASICs exactly? you're not talking about SHA256 bitcoin ASICs are you? Seti@Home classic workunits: 29,492 CPU time: 134,419 hours |

Is it possible to move a machine ID/history over between Windowz and Linux? I vaguely remember reading something about that, wasn't blindingly simple, but thought I'd heard it could be done. Sure. I was told you just made a copy of the "clientstate" file but I was worried so I copied all the files that included Seti in the name in the BOINC folder. Pasted them before the first time I started BOINC up. And boom. The history and the id transferred. At the time, I didn't have any RAC so I can't guarantee that would convert but someone should be able to point to experience one way or the other. which projects can use ASICs? and what ASICs exactly? I hope this helps: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuit My foggy layman's appreciation renders it as "hardware programmed" integrated circuits. Basically you can't load software into it and change any of its functionality. It might have parameters you can tweak but not software. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Thanks Tom, I'll hang tight to hopefully hear more from the SETI masters. Is it possible to move a machine ID/history over between Windowz and Linux? I vaguely remember reading something about that, wasn't blindingly simple, but thought I'd heard it could be done. |

I've done that several times, without mishap or data loss. Thanks Tom, I'll hang tight to hopefully hear more from the SETI masters. Is it possible to move a machine ID/history over between Windowz and Linux? I vaguely remember reading something about that, wasn't blindingly simple, but thought I'd heard it could be done. The critical thing is to understand that you are moving, not copying, the machine state: the old machine MUST NOT be started and allowed to contact project servers without wiping the old state. I've mostly used it to recover a machine ID from the hard disk recovered from a failed host. The easiest way is to copy the entire BOINC data folder (including all subdirectories) from the old machine to the new machine. Then, install a fresh copy of BOINC on the new machine: use the 'advanced' page to set the data directory location to to place you've just used to receive the copied files. And away you go. Edit - the Windoze --> Linux wrinkle does complicate matters. You would need to complete and report all tasks before making the move, and you would need to replace any optimised applications (cough, Lunatics) or other third party apps with Linux versions - or simply allow it to run stock to start with. My experience has been Windows --> Windows, which allows work in progress to be moved too. |

A direct copy of the history files (XML) between Windows and Linux is NOT enough, It will still generate a new host ID when moving since the dectected OS is different. Keith has done this many times with success to wait for him to pipe in for confirmation ... - Run off all Windows tasks, or you will create ghost tasks - Don't start Windows again :D - Do the Linux 'drop in' install, but DON'T start it - Copy all the XML files from the BOINC folder from Windows to Linux (contains detailed stats etc) - Look at your Details for the computer on SETI - Note the "Number of times client has contacted server 21360" number - In the client_state.xml search for <project> and the setiathome section - You will see " <rpc_seqno>21360</rpc_seqno> " - Add 1 to that number, i.e. <rpc_seqno>21361</rpc_seqno> I 'THINK' that is all there is too it. |

Yep, that is basically it. Either the copying of all the xml files from the old Windows system or just start fresh. You can edit the client_state file to put back your original host id number but the most important part is the increment by one of the rpc_seqno from the host Details stat from the website. That way you don't lose the history/creation date and credit of the original host. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

A thought ... You might want to disable the BOINC auto start in Windows, just in case you ever want boot that OS again. |

WOW, I know people have said DDR4 have gone up, but WOW! When I ordered my Ryzen and Trident-Z (F4-3200C14D-16GTZ) Late Nov last year, it was really pricy RAM at $270 for 16Gb. Now it is a whopping $592. A 120% increase in 10 months. I think I will keep my machines with DRR3 RRAM running ... |

This price hike is probably only on this particular kit model because of availability.. and are you sure you are not looking at 2x16gb kit? My G.Skill FlareX 3200 went from 244cad (15 month ago) to 286cad now |

WOW, I know people have said DDR4 have gone up, but WOW! Forecasts are for RAM pricing to drop going in to next year- new production facilities are coming online and movement between types of production- eg GDDR6 ramping up, reducing demand for GDDR5 so VRAM prices dropping (along with the drop in Crypto demand). Also DDR3 RAM being phased out & production moving over to DDR4 along with higher density DDR4 chips being produced. So over all, with a bit of luck, memory should be affordable again towards the end of the 1st quarter of next year. *fingers crossed* Grant Darwin NT |

Nope that is for 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) I'm not sure if that link will work outside of Canada. |

Nope that is for 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) There is a small detail tho.. In stock. Ships from Italy. Most customers receive within 4-18 days. Sold and Shipped by Twinix On newegg you often have this, if newegg does not have it in stock, a third party seller will sell it a stupid high price. Same on Amazon really 3200 C14 memory is often harder to find, compared to C16 kits.. https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232410&cm_re=3200_C14-_-20-232-410-_-Product This is a more normal price, the specific kit you linked might be discontinued too and hard to find now.. the one i linked is possibly a new replacement of that model |
