I've done some test.. i7 6700k 1080 8g (test was run at 4.4ghz) 4cpu/1gpu = avg 1676s /4 = a task is done every 419sec (gpu avg 71.5sec) 6cpu/1gpu = avg 2263s /6 = a task is done every 377sec (gpu avg 71.7sec) R7 1700 1060 6g (@3.8ghz) 8cpu/1gpu = avg 2257s /8 = a task is done every 282sec (gpu avg 127sec) 14cpu/1gpu = avg 3959s /14 = a task is done every 282sec (gpu avg 128sec) i think i will now test 7cpu on the i7 and maybe 12cpu on the ryzen |

I've done some test.. I suspect to tease out the results reliably you will have to run each setting for multiple days to weeks :( And measure the total # of tasks being completed by the whole computer. The confounding factor is the "data" we crunch is variable enough that once a reasonable average is established, it can change based on the mix of the task difficulty. Yep, that's why i only pick similar WUs results, i don't include the short or long ones, and when i do an average i don't pick the lowest and highest result either. I think it's good enough to just have an estimate if one setting looks better than another at least, and so far the results are reproducible when i pick a different set of WUs average results. For my own system with only 1 GPU, it looks like i am not saving all that much GPU time by cutting down on threads. If i ever add a 2nd GPU to the system, i would then test again. |

For my own system with only 1 GPU, it looks like i am not saving all that much GPU time by cutting down on threads. So the question still remains, would you gain processing speed in your cpu tasks if the system is not running flat out with all cpu's engaged? If I understand Juan, that is what he is pointing to. A combination of less than full cpu usage that allows faster processing on the cpu side and/or gpu side. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

If i compare my 4cpu/1gpu vs 7cpu/1gpu, 4/1 = 206wu/1216wu total WU = 1422 7/1 = 238wu/1200wu total WU = 1438 So yes i do gain processing speed on the CPU side going full out, but it chokes the GPU a little (and a difference of 1-2sec equals to quite a bit at the end of the day for the GPU) . Mind you i would probably need way more GPU data to average out for this to be any accurate. For system with multiple GPUs seems clear to me freeing the CPU some would be ideal. Maybe i got this all wrong tho, will do further testing =) |

For Sog tasks I found it also helps to add the -hp switch so the task gets a High Priority CPU thread. |

If i compare my 4cpu/1gpu vs 7cpu/1gpu, Or maybe you are spot on. Only a longer baseline of testing will show if the theory is accurate for your particular setup. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Hi Guys, I did not know where to ask this so i just throw it out here. I've got a NV gtx 260 for free, is it worth crunching on this card nowadays? Or is it just to slow/to much power usage for the results and ready for the trashcan? |

Current NVIDIA drivers will not support this card. You can get drivers for them on the NV website, but they are old. |

It will be a bit quicker than a cpu, and as has been said you need to be careful with the drivers - I think the "newest" version that will work is about 340.xx, and you will have to dig through the archive part of nVidia's site to find them. Also watch your electricity bill. The 2xx series were nowhere near modern efficiency standards. |

Hi Guys,This card requires the 337.88 driver (or older driver) to work correctly (it being pre-Fermi, see the "@Pre-FERMI nVidia GPU users: Important warning" thread pinned near the top of the page), but this driver will not work with Windows 10. Personally I wouldn't use it just due to its old age performance. Cheers. |

I received my replacement P9X79-E WS board yesterday to replace my melted P9X79 LE MB in my (was) #2 computer. It has been sitting a the Post office for 2 weeks, LOL. Haven't got around to trying it yet, still considering doing some case swapping to one with 8 external slots. So then my little i7-960 which got the card transplant from my #2 Computer sees the new board sitting there, and decides it needs a permanent break. I think it is toast now. Been swapping parts and can't even get it to post anymore ... When I'm feeling better I will give things a good shake and see what appears :) LOL |

Ah yes, the jealousy factor.... It's see something it wants going to some other computer and decides it wants those parts so its self destructs and forces you to rebuild it instead with the new parts....... Hard 3 of those right before the WOW.... |

Greetings all, Is it my imagination or has Micro$oft removed the "Do not download and install third party software." setting from Windows 10? I looked for it yesterday and cannot find it. I did the monthly update 3.5 days ago and it screwed with my video driver. My Nvidia driver was still installed but did not show up in device manager. I re-installed the newest driver I have (clean install less the experience crap software) and that fixed the problem that came up after the update. Fracking Micro$oft just cannot keep their grubby little meat hooks out of my PC. PISSES me off! Their "pay-as-you-go" OS is NOT going to hit this PC. This PC belongs to ME, NOT Micro$oft! >_< Even though I have SpyBot Anti-beacon set to check telemetry settings on reboot and re-immunize if need be, I still have to go in and disable junk that Micro$oft seems to think they have a right to change. One other thing that the update fiasco did was change the color of my task bar. It's now black like the desktop background. I'm hoping a reboot will fix that, but that will happen in the future. I'm trying to get this PC's uptime greater than 20 days. It's at 3.5 days right now. Got a ways to go. ;) Anyway, have a great day everyone! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Greetings all, Greetings, I used the Google machine and found where to check the setting. Leave it to Micro$oft to take more control and put the setting where one would not remember to look instead of the LOGICAL place like where update settings are. It's in a long drawn out clicking process in Control Panel. My setting is set to "NO", do not download and install third party (manufacturers) software. So much for Micro$oft following settings they "give" us to prevent this kind of crap. MICRO$OFT: "We don't care what you put your settings at, we're going to disobey them anyway. We own all the world's PCs through Windows 10." :P It's BS I tell ya, flat out smelly BS! Anyway, when I Googled it I figured I would find that Micro$oft did away with the setting. I forgot it was put in Control Panel (where it does not belong). Answered my own quest. Have a great day! :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L.
