I see a new Staff Scientist opening posted this week for Breakthrough Listen. Applicant is expected to have extensive experience with GPU accelerated high speed digital signal processing. Looks like they are beefing up for the new Parkes Array data that is expected soon. Project Scientist Step I-III Wonder if the new staff will have anything to do with the day-to-day running of the project servers. I wouldn't expect any new staff brought in for Breakthrough Listen to be involved with the day to day actives of SETI@home. It has had the opposite effect so far. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours |

Yes, I sort thought that after Breakthrough Listen purloined Matt and I think that most of Jeff's time is involved with that project too. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

I would think that in private industry qualifications like that would get you closer to 1/2 a million a year. It is a shame we do not value the sciences more. I hope they find someone qualified and energetic. I did not mean to imply that a PhD itself made this difference, I meant that in private industry one could make a lot more money. ![]() SETI@home classic workunits 4,019 SETI@home classic CPU time 34,348 hours |

In the same way, any lights and radio waves are not supposed to be the same either. |
