Better living conditions in their Countries or worse living conditions in the USA than their Countries have are the only solutions for their attempts. Investing in creating better conditions in their home countries would be a good idea. But the US doesn't have a good record on this, not even in their own territories, such as Puerto Rico. But a well thought out plan costing 25 Billion into Central American countries would make more sense that a 25 Billion wall. But Trump's focus on a few thousand in caravans passing through Mexico totally misses the point as in the same period about half a million have entered legally for short stays but just haven't gone home at the end of that short stay. (Didn't Melina do that) |

Rump really misses the point. They are coming no matter what. Wouldn't it be best to make them able to come legally? Back in the days when Rump's first came here the requirements were medical clearance, $20, and fill out paperwork. Today you could make that vaccinations, medical clearance, criminal check - unfortunately only as good as the record keeping in their home country, a processing fee, paperwork, bio-metrics - fingerprints & DNA, and having $1,000. Love to see a sponsor or job offer too, or perhaps substitute that for the cash. That cash for the border wall would be much more effective in setting up industry to export product to the USA, thus giving them jobs where they are now, no need for them to come, win-win. But that is a lose-lose for a damn fool loudmouth bully. |

They are coming no matter what. If for no other reason than that the US needs them. To replace the population that US nationals are not producing to maintain the economy at current levels. It is no longer 2.1 children it is 1.76. |

They are coming no matter what. To add to this. If you work out the numbers from US census - THE NEXT FOUR DECADES, The Older Population in the United States: 2010 to 2050 and Working age population ~200 million in 2010. You will see there were approx 5 workers/pensioner in 2010, and it is projected to be 3.4 workers/pensioner in 2050. Which produces the question; Can workers in 2050 afford an increase in taxes to pay for an increase in retirement benefits of nearly 50% ? If not then the US needs about 700,000 immigrants/year that stay, legal of course. Many don't stay, there are more of Mexican origin leaving than arriving in the US. |

Back in the days when Rump's first came here the requirements were medical clearance, $20, and fill out paperwork. There is nothing unusual about that. Most countries only have an Embassy or Consulate with visa offices in the capital city and if you want a visa that's where you go. |

[edit] American Citizen's do not need an Argentinian Visa when travelling to Argentina. Just an American Passport. Subject to the whims of the Rump or the Rump counterpart and/or a treaty. Long gone are the days when you could get your visa stamp at the border. |

So parts of the US government are shut down because Trump hasn't got funds to build the remaining ~1,300 miles of the Mexican wall, so from tomorrow who is guarding the 12,300 miles of coastline? It's not the Coastguard because they are part of Homeland Security and their pay only lasts until the end of 2018. edit - typo |

Not true the Coast Guard is working and not being paid. As per Trump the beatings will continue until morale improves. |

It is true the working employees will probably receive back pay but that will not ameliorate the damage. In the meantime many will fall behind on their bills and ruin their credit rating, some of the creditors not getting paid in a timely manner will have cash flow problems and some will fail. That will in turn hurt their creditors and the interconnected economy will get an unnecessary negative jolt. Those who are not working and not getting paid will even be worse off as will their creditors be. |

wait till the ship pulls up to the fuel pump and the operator demands cash credit is not good. BTW where does that leave FDIC bank insurance, "the full faith and credit of the US Government." |
