Do you have the capability to engage in an intellectual, moral and ethical disagreement?
We do, but all we're finding is unintelligent people who spew out rubbish.

Deaths reported after explosion in Ethiopia capital

An explosion in the capital of Ethiopia has killed “a few people” and left many others injured, the new prime minister of the eastern African nation said Saturday.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed called the blast the result of a “well-orchestrated attack.”

A suicide bombing in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad has killed at least 19 people, most of them members of the country's Sikh minority.

Police said they had been travelling in a vehicle to meet President Ashraf Ghani, who is visiting Nangarhar province, when the bomber struck.

Among those killed was the only Sikh candidate who had planned to contest October's parliamentary elections.

The Islamic State (IS) group said it carried out the attack.

Hours earlier, Mr Ghani had opened a hospital in Jalalabad during his two-day visit to Nangarhar. Officials said he was not in the area when the suicide blast occurred.

The Indian embassy in Kabul condemned the "cowardly terrorist" attack.

An Afghan interior ministry spokesman says that 14 people, including both civilians and military forces, have been killed in the suicide attack near Kabul’s airport shortly after the country’s controversial first vice president landed on his return from abroad.

Spokesman Najib Danish added that 50 other people were wounded in the attack.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack through its Aamaq News Agency.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the attack in a statement released by the presidential palace.

Death Toll From ISIS Attacks In Syria Tops 200

BEIRUT (AP) — The death toll from coordinated attacks by Islamic State fighters on a usually peaceful southern city and surrounding countryside has climbed to 216, a local health official said Thursday, in the worst violence to hit the area since the country’s conflict began.

Anybody who thinks the Daesh threat is over is delusional.
Including state leaders like Trump and Putin.

Faisal Hussain ID'd as gunman in deadly Toronto shooting spree

Toronto Shooting Rekindles Familiar Debate: Terrorist? Mentally Ill? Both?
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/25/world/americas/islamic-state-mental-health.html

"“There are people who may want to frame this as a purely #mentalhealth event and not as #terrorism,” said Mitch Silber, the former head of intelligence at the New York Police Department. “But making that line of demarcation is not necessarily accurate. It can be a bit of both.”

Mr. Silber added: “When we look at what triggers people to mobilize, to take up a new ideology and to do something in opposition to the society they live in, they typically have some kind of grievance, and that could very well overlap with a mental health issue. If it’s untreated — or insufficiently treated — it can lead to violence.”

In #Toronto, the authorities have declined to answer reporters’ questions about whether the gunman’s electronic devices have been recovered and what, if anything, was found on them."

In Gothenburg, Sweden up to 80 vehicles were badly damaged by gangs of black-clad youths, beginning at about 21:00 local time (19:00 GMT) yesterday.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said: "It looks like very coordinated, almost like a military operation."
Speaking to Swedish Radio, PM Löfven addressed the attackers, simply asking: "What the hell are you doing?"

There are some problems with the version Dull linked to.

A widely-shared article potentially confused some readers about the motives of a couple murdered in Tajikistan in July 2018.

Claim: Americans Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan were killed in Tajikistan while cycling through "Isis territory" in order to vindicate their belief in human kindness.

What's false: There is no evidence Austin and Geoghegan were aware of any terrorist threat in Tajikistan, or that they travelled through that region particularly in order to vindicate their belief in human kindness. There is ample evidence that their trip was motivated by no more than a desire for adventure and life experience.

At the time Austin and Geoghegan visited Tajikistan, the U.S. State Department listed the country as a relatively low-risk destination for American travelers, giving it a Level 1 “travel advisory” (the lowest available) which comes with advice to “exercise normal precautions.”

While there is no evidence that the couple set out to prove anything on their trip, it is true is that Austin and Geoghegan appear to have been struck, many times, by the generosity and thoughtfulness of some of the strangers they encountered. In fact, Austin called it a “revelation,” a description that further undermines the idea that this was a fervently-held belief before the trip, which the couple set out to vindicate.

Whatever version.
Why like a Swedish couple, with strong religous belives and also beeing Christian missionaries, go to places like Tajikistan?
It was some years ago so I don't remember the country. In the same region anyway.
They where held captive for months.
Stupid thing to do, biking in Daesh territory if you ask me.

I don't think it was considered to be Daesh territory, though, was it? Perhaps it is now but I don't recall any other incidents before this one that have been claimed by the group. I'm not saying there haven't been though. But if it was known Daesh territory - why did the state department only rate it as a level one risk?
