The version you have is certainly old.

I believe beta6 was the last one posted, but it is also outdated as the SoG app is older than the one supplied as 'stock' now. Many are anticipating the next release. It works fine, but I think there is a performance increase with the newer app.

Long ago, I believe that I hardwired somewhere a limit of 100 on reporting tasks.
Not been an issue for a long time now, but I don't think I ever changed that.

Got the latest B6 version of the installer downloaded, I guess before I install it, I should ask if this one or the traditional one would be better suited for this machine. It has three GTX950s and one GTX750Ti. Would SOG or the traditonal Lunatics install be better suited for this machine? I also am running currently two tasks per GPU, and 20 cores of CPU tasks as well, after the ones reserved for the GPU's are taken into account .

I see you are running cuda5. Is there a reason for that? On all machines?

SoG definitely uses more CPU resources, like 1 core per task. with 8 tasks you might get away with 6.

My real question is, Do you want me to type out an SoG setup, or remain on Cuda? And I'm not sure what if any changes have been made to cuda. I do see that Mark is running some 780's (I think it was) with the same app.

Don't forget to download the SoG r3584 also. You will have to manually replace the SoG app that comes with the B6 installer (not to hard to do).

You don't really need an app_info.xml that is a mile long. Here is my complete app_info.xml as an example.

You can see that I no longer run CPU tasks, just GPU. This is just to show that it doesn't have to be super complicated. If you wanted to run CPU tasks, it is easy to add the necessary sections back in.

You can choose to run the CUDA50 app or the SoG app in the Lunatics installer. The B6 installer for the SoG app is a bit out of date but you can download the latest SoG app from Mike's World and manually install it in the app_info after B6 creates it. Simple copy and paste for the change in app name and .CL filename and put the newer SoG app files into the directory. Others can probably state for sure whether the CUDA50 or SoG app is best for your cards. Shaggie's credit/card type list only covers the SoG app so you can't make direct comparisons to what the card output for CUDA50 against SoG would be. You shouldn't have an issue with CPU support for the SoG app with the number of cores at your disposal. The SoG app needs 1 full CPU core to support 1 SoG GPU task on each card. Whether you should run 1 or 2 SoG tasks per card is the question. The SoG app tends to use more of the GPU resources compared to CUDA50. You need to get someone with your same type of cards and that has transitioned from CUDA50 to SoG to comment whether it was worth it with regard to RAC output.

I just ran the Beta installer, chose SOG, and edited the app_info file, bumped up the NCPUS lines from stock to .38 all the way thru, and then started it up. Came up properly, still running 2 tasks per GPU, and here is the log:

So, it appears to still be running CUDA even though I chose SOG, at least reading the startup log? Strange, Also, I went to the Mikes World link up the thread a little bit, and didn't see any file labeled SOG anything, I must be missing something somewere. I'd like to have the lastest and greatest app, because I would like to set and forget this computer for as long as I can, I'd prefer not to have to futz with it once it is operating at or near peak performanmce. If someone could point me to the correct file, and then the proper lines to add/modify in the config file(s), I'd appreciate it.

You are running drivers that have OpenCL support based on the startup log entries so that rules out having a Microsoft installed Nvidia driver that didn't include OpenCL support. That problem with auto updated files in Windows 10 has been fixed recently so that isn't an issue. Besides you are running Windows 7.

I can't seem to grab the direct URL for the file on Mike's site. It just downloads the file. The file is the top entry on the far right of the page in the Nvidia column. The file is named MB8_NV_r3584_SoG.

Mike's World Downloads

First thing to check is whether you have the SoG app installed in the directory along with its .CL and .PDB files. It should be named MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3557.exe. If the installer did as it was told you should have the file in the project directory and you should have the app name installed in the app_info.xml file in the SETI V8 section. It sounds like you may have somehow still selected the CUDA50 app in the installer. It will auto select the CUDA app if you don't un-toggle the radio button for the CUDA app and select the SoG r3557 app. Check the app_info entries and look for the r3557 SoG app.

To update the older r3557 app, just copy and paste with the Replace command all the older r3557 app name with the r3584 app name and also Replace the r3557.CL file name with the new r3584 .CL file name to match the app.

A paste of your V8 MB sections of your app_info would probably indicate to us what is happening with your machine.

By the time I posted my last response and looking at your most recent finished files, I see that Brent has found one that the shows the stderr.txt entry for SoG app. So you are running the newest SoG app in the Beta-06 installer. So the installer worked as expected. Now a simple edit of your app_info and download of the latest SoG r3584 app is all you need to do to get current.

Guys, thanks for the advice and the news that it is installed and running correctly. I will def update the app. but again I went to Mikes World, and still do not see any file to download that is called anything with SOG in it. What exact file name do I need to download from that site? I will grab it and do the update, but need to know what I am looking for. Thanks!

Ahhh, Missed it. Was looking more closely at the titles, and not close enough at the file name. Missed that little sucker, maybe he should put SOG in the title too? Just a thougth for those of us with observational difficulties ;-) I'll get at it now, and see how it goes. I see some SOG tasks towards the bottom of my list, so it is downloading them. Wonder what it might do to this units crunching abilities? Is this the point where I need to consider adding in that long interesting command like to really spice things up a bit?

Yes, the command line will definitely help.

For a dedicated cruncher, with reasonable GPUs, this works pretty well for 1 WU at a time.

-tt 1500 -period_iterations_num 1 -high_prec_timer -sbs 1024 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64
With these settings, I didn't find much benefit in running more than 1WU. Less aggressive settings may result in better run times with more than 1 WU.

EDIT- I found reserving 1 CPU core per GPU WU gave a slight, but worth while, boost in output.

First thing to check is whether you have the SoG app installed in the directory along with its .CL and .PDB files. It should be named MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3557.exe. If the installer did as it was told you should have the file in the project directory and you should have the app name installed in the app_info.xml file in the SETI V8 section. It sounds like you may have somehow still selected the CUDA50 app in the installer. It will auto select the CUDA app if you don't un-toggle the radio button for the CUDA app and select the SoG r3557 app. Check the app_info entries and look for the r3557 SoG app.

To update the older r3557 app, just copy and paste with the Replace command all the older r3557 app name with the r3584 app name and also Replace the r3557.CL file name with the new r3584 .CL file name to match the app.

A paste of your V8 MB sections of your app_info would probably indicate to us what is happening with your machine.

Wow, what was I saying about reading comprehension, sorry, missed those specific instructions too. :-/ On the brighter side, I did go into my app_info file and update all the 3557 references with r3584, saved it and restarted BOINC, with no obvious trauma:

Run Task Manager or Process Explorer and it will show the name of the Executable that is running.

Gave up trying to post my response to this thread last night when the website just went into zombie mode. I see that you have the r3584 SoG app in play now. Looks like the times are an improvement over similar AR when compared to your previous CUDA50 runs. So that seems to have worked out well. Question is whether they were solo runs or are you still deploying two tasks per card like before with CUDA50? The times seem to indicate the expected results with the SoG app.
