Initial impression is, nice refit. :-) More distinction between quoted text and responses would make easier reading (on long back-and-forth's). A slightly brighter side bar would probably be enough. @ text wrapping issue: In my inbox, it cannot be attributed to images (as has been suggested and might be the case elsewhere) As eyes age, they need more light to function at their best. Twice as much by age fifty compared to young adults. Worth taking into consideration. |

The thread icons are as clear as mud when the threads are locked.David fixed that on Saturday morning (probably still Friday night his time): Fixed, by putting those icons on a light gray background. -- DBut they reverted again, like much else, yesterday morning. |

Here is a thought of mine. A white background is better because the pupil contracts with light and hence focuses more sharply. How can one argue against greater visual acuity? |

Is that the 17" Galaxy S7? Subtract 12 inches and bingo;-) That's why I was really confused. They said it's better for smaller screens and still it looks awful on smartphones. And yeah, my screenshot looks funny, but that's the native resolution if the S7 and ofc this forum software doesn't have automatic pic resizing. |

First Titanic deck steward: "Let's position these deck chairs to give the best view of the moonlight reflecting off that big, beautiful iceberg we just passed." Second Titanic deck steward: "No, no. They really should be facing directly toward the moon, so the passengers have a bit brighter light to read by." Titanic passenger: "When it's pitch black in the middle of the night, it really doesn't make much difference. I still can't read these damn directions to my lifeboat station. Doesn't one of you have a flashlight?" First deck steward: "Only this one with the green cellophane over the lens." Passenger: "Anyway, shouldn't you be making better use of your time than just rearranging deck chairs. Like perhaps doing something about a few of those pesky holes in the side of the boat?" |

First Titanic deck steward: "Let's position these deck chairs to give the best view of the moonlight reflecting off that big, beautiful iceberg we just passed." So true. But in my career it has just proven that ANY change will create dissappointed by a group of people. You just cannot please everybody at the same time. (Different selectable themes can be a solution, but then again the above story kicks in. How much time, effort and money should they invest in different themes rather than sience?) One more quote: "There's nothing that people hate more than change and the way things are right now." |

I don't recall seeing any complaints about the prior web design, at least not from those who actually USED it......... "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

So true. But in my career it has just proven that ANY change will create dissappointed by a group of people. You just cannot please everybody at the same time. With nothing to compare it to, how would people know to complain. But if you want a complaint coming from someone who actually USED the SETI Classic forums (similar dark theme): I was disappointed in the new SETI look and preferred the darker SETI Classic website. I never spoke up because I tend not to waste too much of my time complaining about such things. |

Did the font of message change recently? readability became worse again. Font of "buttons" good to read, but main message in hard to read font. Pity that from useful instrument for SETI project these boards become eye-damagers. I'm at the point to abandon everyday looking. SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. Ah... Seems Russian translation remained in good font (and "buttons" are translated. Here: ДоÑка Ñообщений : News : Web site upgrade Russian text looks fine while English in weird font. So, just need to figure out what font used for Russian text and how to reverse English one into same font. Still don't understand what the hell I need to spend time for this... One, fairly minor, issue - the vertical bar alongside quoted text is all but invisible, being almost the same shade of grey as the text background. Picking up on Raistmer's comments about fonts used - has the default font changed again? - It is looking a lot clearer than it did a day or so back. And in particular much clearer that the first-change font still in use on the BOINC development message boards, where the lower-case 'c' (C, in case it changes again here) is almost indistinguishable from 'o'. |

I don't recall seeing any complaints about the prior web design, at least not from those who actually USED it......... Excactly. Matches what I said. Any CHANGE()! created complaints, not any design never being changed. I'm pretty sure if we dig back to the time where seticlassis was changed to boinc we will find a ton of complaints about the web design. I can already recall a ton of complaints about BOINC itself in comparison to the SETI only client. |

All current English text in bad font for me currently. Switch to English - weird. ПереключаюÑÑŒ на руÑÑкую раÑкладку - нормально. Желательно Ñто вÑе же иÑправить.... SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

That's why I replied to your message on the public mailing lists by saying that extensive testing of browsers, operating systems (and I should have said languages) needs to be made before a final choice is settled on. And there's a problem there - we need to see screenshots of the problems that readers are experiencing, but the Berkeley campus mailing-list system strips graphic attachments from messages before distribution. And in particular much clearer that the first-change font still in use on the BOINC development message boards, where the lower-case 'c' (C, in case it changes again here) is almost indistinguishable from 'o'.All current English text in bad font for me currently. Your English text in the quote rendered clearly here using Windows 7 and Chrome. |
