It's a misnomer to say "republicans vs democrats." Today it's:

"individual freedom vs the media"

I would say that it is 'individual freedom vs. the authoritarian establishment (of which, of course, the media is a part)'.

The media (the Press) has gone from the protector of the rights of The People (like it should be) against the authoritarian elites, to being PART OF the authoritarian elites.

The only solution? "When in the course of human events...".

Yes. But I'm thinking we won't go through an "all out" US vs THEM on opposite sides of the Mason-Dixon Line until one side is so decimate there's nothing left like we've done in the past. We're not arguing about the phrase "all men are created equal" these days and one side is not relying economically on keeping one skin color "not equal" in order to maintain their economy.

Today, I'm thinking we'll have some massive shooting battle (probably at a major university--snow flakes/communists vs "I'm not paying for it and you can't force me to pay for it") and when we realize there's a couple hundred dead "students", we'll all stand back and say, "whoa..." Maybe it'll take a couple of major university battles, each with a couple dozen dead students.

Yes, "When in the course of human events..." I'm thinking more and more it's inevitable. 150 years since the last one. We might be overdue for one.

Edit:

authoritarian establishment (of which, of course, the media is a part)

The democrats are in the minority is all branches/levels of government. The media continues to treat them as if they are in the majority. The "press" isn't just a part of it. Opposition to authoritarian government republicans is much more "press" than "democrats" these days.

You are confusing things. The Democrats and The Republicans are pretty much the same thing. At least they both use the same methods (authoritarian), just with slightly different aims. I condemn the methods used without regard for the aims.

The Ends do NOT justify the Means.

Oh, and we very much ARE arguing the phrase "All menpeople are created equal" here.

By what right does Government treat groups of People differently? Even when membership in the 'screwed' group is those People with a larger net worth/income? Why should They get stuck paying for everything, when those with smaller net worths/incomes basically get 'everything for free'? If we ARE all equal, why should we get treated differently by the Government?

Kong, ten years ago I felt gridlock was a good thing. The problem now is we are mired in a debt spiral downward, unless consensus can be reached on spending and tax reform we will no longer be a viable society. We are going down very much the same road taken by Greece with the same result, but we can't be bailed out by others as the cost would bankrupt the entire world economy.

As long as our government continues it's internecine war the common person will be the victims. We also need Civil Service reform allowing the removal of employees for cause or incompetence whether intentional or not. That's how the real world works.

DING!

I have nothing left to add.

I agree with what you're implying and I'll add that government should just make sure the free market remains free and fair. The most efficient means of distributing goods and services is through a free and fair market--thus making the *most* people happy.

Ah, but we have NOT had a free market, EVER. Since day one of the USA, we have had a 'mixed' economy. The 'Free' in 'Free Market' means to keep the Government totally OUT of it. I will admit that, in the past, the Market has been 'free-er' than it is right now, and it is getting LESS free every day.

Say NO to Government giving boons/bonuses/power to Business.
Say NO to Government penalizing Business through Regulations/laws.

Let the Market be TOTALLY free of Government interference.

The MOMENT that Government tells two people that they can not Voluntarily engage in a business transaction, we have ALL lost. The ONLY permissible situation where the Government could possibly legitimately interfere in a business transaction is if said transaction was international, and even then the interference should be kept to a minimum... (IE "don't sell our enemies any war materials").

Authoritarian media such as Britebart, The Blaze, The Drudge Report, WND, The Daily Caller, The Washington Examiner, CNS News, Weekly Standard

The issue is actually Libertarians vs. Tea Party or religious extremism. This Map has a very good tracking of the problem and where it is festering.

Didn't Coolidge minimise government interference in business, and didn't his policies lead to the Depression.

Based upon what I see in the ISP market, I'd have to disagree. If left alone, business have no problems colluding and price fixing to corner markets and reap as much money as they can.

I don't think there should be a lot of government oversight, but I don't think it should be totally free either.

Some regulation is needed obviously, the point where over-regulation starts curtailing freedom of exchange is where the problem lies. i.e. the EPA regulations on mitigation or use of 'casual water' on an individuals property. A Major over reach on common sense and unnecessary involvement of Government in the VAST majority of occurrences.

The tricky part is to cut the fat and not the muscle of regulation. And with the fat there will always be the resistance of the job holders in the Department of Redundancy Department......

That sounds like a reasonable viewpoint.

And conversation stops.

The issue is always that laws, rules and regulations can't be written to the detail level necessary to put common sense into them. There will always be some, hopefully small number of, perverted cases in the rules. The swamp is the congress being so polarized that when a member wants to bring up a bill to correct one of these perversions it turns into a partisan fight over a mole hill or a cattle pond. And someone should note that the agency charged with enforcement can't rewrite the congress so they have to carry out the perversion even knowing it is perverted. Of course the real problem is when a neighbor gets a proverbial hair stuck up their ___ and pitches a royal tantrum to a regulatory agency over something. The regulators can't ignore properly filed formal complaints, so perversion happens.

"I know no method to secure the repeal of bad or obnoxious laws so effective as their stringent execution." -- U.S. Grant

There was probably a very good reason why he was pushed face down in the mud for a couple of centuries before some foreigners and a hand full of natives (who couldn't remember why he was put in that position in the 1st place) up righted and gave him a makeup job, I can't for the life of me think of 1. :-(

Cheers..
