Hi there, if I recall right, I tried that one first. May have to take another look, been a while and I don't recall why I dumped it. |

. . Hi, . . I don't do overclocking though I have read that it is very good at that, but I do use it to maintain the fan profile I want and to monitor the rig activity/usage and it is definitely very good at that. Stephen |

Likewise, I don't mess with clocking except perhaps to bring up speeds on some that are not at factory spec. Definitely a fan application, |

Interesting. Wonder how a 1050Ti might play with a 1080 and 2 980Ti's? ;-) Have to do some re-configuring if I am going to move in that direction, but then I'd need to figure out how to make that rescheduling business work before I even considered adding it. But interesting to know. Now if only EVGA could make their Precision software work with both the 10 series and 9 series cards in the same machine, I'd be Golden, but last time I spoke with them the week I got my 1080, they made it sound like that was just a pipe dream, so I don't have a lot of hope in that happening. Hey, anything that can raise your output buy a factor of 2 or more is a winner to me! |

. . Hi Al, . . Just between you, me and the lamppost I am actually hoping it will be a factor of 3 :) Since the GTX950s in my other rigs are giving results better than double that of the GT730 (probably closer to 2.5), and the GTX 1050 ti's are (by reports on gamers websites) able to improve on that by about 25%, I am hoping it will better the 3 times mark. But I am always an optomist. Stephen . |

. . As the proud(?) owner of an HP Core 2 Duo rig, currently running a GT730, I am waiting breathlessly for MSI to make their promised GTX 1050 ti low profile card a reality, then I can give that rig some teeth to chew guppis with. It won't give mind bending results but that should increase its output by at least a factor of 2. Then I will change over to SoG instead of CUDA50. Ever thought about swapping that Core2Duo out for a Core2Quad? Fairly inexpensive and easy enough to do ... |

Certainly a dual core would be a bottle neck for a 1050 with SoG. Two tasks at low priority will pin the CPU. Just like my dual core AMD 4200 with 2 SoG tasks on 750Ti - CPU just sits on 100%, but it's just enough to keep the GPU full. I would like to quad mine, but with only 1 PCIe slot it's hardly worth it. |

Certainly a dual core would be a bottle neck for a 1050 with SoG. Two tasks at low priority will pin the CPU. I've done two of these. The first, an HP-8000, has two 750tis, one using a pciex1 riser due to mobo space limitations. With a Q9650 @3.00ghz, using 2 CPUs for crunching and two to support the GPUs, averages 12-14k RAC, as high as 16k or so if the AP ghods are smiling. The second, a Gigabyte tech mobo, has 4 GPUs, two 980s and two 750tis, again using 3 risers. With a Xeon E5450 (Xeon version of the Q9650, with the socket 771 to 775 mod), it averages RACs in the mid-20k range. This will probably go back to 2 GPUs when I get my next Z600 built. FWIW, 775-modded E5450s can be found for $20-30 |

That sounds like a good idea but do you know where I could buy one cheaply ? . . Actually it is managing very well with the GT730 in there at the moment, but I am hoping the 1050 ti will be 3 to 4 times as productive so I have upgraded the system with a 120GB SSD and migrated SETI from the USB2.0 4GB flashdrive it was on to the new drive. It is running more smoothly and seems to have knocked a minute or so off the runtimes, but mainly the system is now more responsive. While I would like to have a good Core(2) Quad in there (Q9650 is it) I think it will manage as is. I was running dual GTX970s on my rig with the Pentium D using another slow USB2.0 flashdrive and it coped, except for the heat dissipation issue which is why it is now running 2 GTX950s. I upgraded it to an SSD at the same time as Mi_Burrito and the 950s never ran smoother :). I am looking forward to winter next year so I can put the 970s back in and see how they perform working from an SSD, that is if the sickness doesn't force me to build and even better rig for them in the meantime :). I got my Q9650 used off Amazon, Marketplace, and probably paid a bit too much for it, but at $43 this doesn't look too bad out of China: The modded Xeon I got off eBay for ~$30 usd. If you go for a modded Xeon, be sure that not only has the crossover been installed but that the extra key slots have been cut in the chip so that you don't have to mod the socket. Or, if you're brave enough, get an unmodded chip and do it yourself ... I can help with instructions, if needed. |

. . Hi Klik . . Thanks for that info but I have been keenly aware of the 1050ti since the day after it's announcement, and the same for the 1050 a few days ago. I have known of the Galax 950 for a little longer but all references indicate it is not available outside of Japan. I am keen to get a 1050 ti even if I have to install it with a shoehorn (the measurements say it will touch my CPU cooler but I am hoping the shape of the GPU fan cowling will mean it misses by 1 or 2 mm), that is why I have added a more powerful fan and an SSD to that rig, but it is yet to be available anywhere. No web-shops I have checked show any sign of it and my local supplier knows nothing of it :( Stephen . |

Hi All I've been out of the main stream for a while and therefore am way behind on the latest gossip. I've only just found this thread about rescheduling guppis. I downloaded V0.51 of Mr Kevvy's utility but it doesn't seem to do anything. When I run it, I get the message about SAH Beta, hit the OK button. The program exits straight away without doing anything. The system is a Q9550 + 2 x GTX750 Ti's, Win XP Pro_32. NV Driver V355.6 Folders are E:\BOINC and E:\BOINC\BoincData I have 17 "normal" WU's assigned to the CPU and 8 guppis assigned to GPU's As far as I can tell it should work, but I got lost amongst the side conversations in the thread. Is there an update I've missed somewhere or something ? TIA T.A. |

Most of us here in NC use Jimbocous' front-end to Mr. Kevvy's rescheduler. The program is called Qopt. Looks like he has authentication turned on his FTP server now that everyone already has the program. You might shoot him a private email to have him send you QOpt.zip. I think the latest version is J or something. Jimbocous That program gives a lot better output that might show what is happening with your rescheduler attempts. Hi TA, Mr. Kevvy's rescheduler 0.51 is the current version, and while there are a couple outstanding issues there's nothing that I've heard causes any problems. It would be good to know what error message Kevvy 0.51 is giving when it runs. A few things: First, GUPPIRescheduler.exe must be located in the same directory as client_state.xml, in your case I'm assuming this is E:\BOINC Second, ensure that you have exited BOINC before running Kevvy (e.g. stop all apps box checked when terminating BOINCManager). While you're welcome to the QOpt front end, it will not make Kevvy work where it otherwise wouldn't. The main thing it does do, however, is make a backup so that in case anything really blows up you can recover without trashing work in process or waiting to run. It also permits multiple machines to use the same log file to provide consolidated control and logging. It need not be installed in the BOINC directories, but elsewhere in its own directory. If you want the QOpt front end, you can ftp it at jimbocous.servebbs.com/FILE_DISTRO/QOpt/ I had to turn off anonymous FTP due to a roving bot that seemed to love filling the drive with malware, so username/password are both "qopt" lower case. Current version remains 1.02k, either 32- or 64-bit version, and can be downloaded either in the full directory, or in ZIP or 7Z. The reason for all the various options is that compiled batches like this are famous for triggering false positives on anti-virus programs. So the various option help work around that for download purposes. It is usually necessary to "whitelist" the program if your AV program gets annoyed. Installation notes are included in a readme, and the full documentation is self-contained using the ? or -h options. Glad to answer questions here as well. Regards, Jim ... |

Ok - Thanks to all for your help. I've got the rescheduler installed in the same directory as the the client_state file, I've QOpt downloaded, running and talking to GUPPIRescheduler and I've updated BOINC to the latest version. I have 20 "normal" WU's on the CPU's and 40 odd Guppis on the GPU's When I run QOpt, I get 4 lines saying "INFO: No tasks running with the specified criteria". Apart from from that it all seems to go through the motions of rescheduling the WU's quite happily but nothing happens. I still have guppis on the GPU's while having "normal" WU's on CPU's. QOpt.log shows no errors, the problem seems to be with the Rescheduler. Does it work on XP ? Or should I be looking at something else ? Again TIA T.A. |

I'm not sure where that error message resides. Never seen it before from the script running. I looked back through the entire thread looking for anyone that is running CUDA successfully with the rescheduler. I only found one explicit comment from Laurent Domisse that said he was having issues with the program and he was running CUDA tasks under Linux. Nobody else in the thread has explicitly said they have the program running CUDA tasks. I haven't looked up everyone's computers to see whether they were running CUDA tasks. It would be helpful is anyone reading this thread and using the program with CUDA to say what luck they are having with it. From reading through the command files, there shouldn't be any issue with what app you use to process GPU tasks. Only the disclaimer about running the BETA project. There was one comment about Windows XP not having the BOINC directory in the same place as with Windows7 or Windows10 and for the program authors not to make that assumption. I know that was corrected in later releases with help from the thread participants. I gather from your last comment that the program is executed from the BOINC directory. It just isn't working correctly for you for some reason still. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Ok - Thanks to all for your help. Can you post the QOPt.log from a single run here? Within the log file, any output between the single dashed lines is from GUPPIRescheduler, anything else is from QOpt. Pretty sure the INFO message is Kevvy ... |
