Well, thank you kind sir! Looks like I just picked up 35 or so in the last few minutes, so that should help for a while. :-) |

I need to find my portable apps version so I can abort ~300 tasks as I need to clean/format that USB and I don't actually use that version too often only in development of the portableapp |

Well, there is tasks, but only VLAR, so no joy for GPU's.... |

You mean no joy for your Arecibo loving GPU, my GPUs feast on VLARS, lol... ;) |

It will be interesting to see how the rig with 56 cores shapes up, once I get the time to complete it. Hey Al: We need to discuss your CPU core obsession! lol But you just gave me a thought that could be included in future Boinc major release! I remember reading a post (which I can't find) by someone from the staff (Dr Korpela?) about NOT being able to program Boinc to recognize multiple CPUs ...but a reference about BOINC only being able to see the # of CPU cores. @all: Maybe it would be worth looking into that further?!? Why not put a new deviceTaskLimit for CPUcores (instead of the current perMotherboard limit) Obviously 100/core would be WAY too high...but since we have the daily updates of https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/cpu_list.php, we might be able to come up with a scenario that might be better than the current 100/mobo limit. It could satisfy multiCPU rigs like LotzaCores without having an impact on slow rigs that are currently limited by the 10day limit. We'd just have to determine a good max/CPUcore that wouldn't have a negative impact on: 1. servers; and 2. mid range rigs with 4-8cores but benefit greatly: high end Rigs that have 8-24cores [edit]A quick guess-stimate would be to start with 25/core (since for a quad core, that's 100/4) for calculation purposes. That would likely be way too high to minimize server impact. Keep in mind that Boinc currently has a 1000task limit per rig per project, which I discovered a few weeks ago and published in a new thread that was removed because of the "Auhust 2016 saga"[/e] Is it worth starting a new thread? |

It's currently out of the technical reach of the mods (as you can see froma profile that hasn't changed in almost a week) The offensive profile you have cited is in a currently banned account. You are correct in that moderators cannot make changes to or hide profiles. If a profile is inappropriate, the user is asked to modify it. If the user does not comply, the account is banned. Suggesting that a fellow community member post offensive material in a profile is neither good nor helpful advice. |

My apology Angela. I only implied that his Bill Cosby reference might not be considered 'kid friendly'. I should have been clearer on that. As for the inapproprite profile I linked to, I didn't realize the user account had been suspended. Maybe a bug report could be filed somewhere (I don't know where) so that the top of profile indicates that the user account is currently suspended (or for the profile to be hidden). Feel free to modify my post with the link to that profile or even to hide the post completely. My apology again, RobG [edit]I have pressed the little red X on my ambiguous post in order to have it removed. I just hope there is no need to remove any posts that references it.[/e] |

Thank you for red-xing your own post. I am happy to remove it, at your request, as it does provide a link to an inappropriate profile in a currently banned account. Per your request, I will leave my response and your subsequent post standing, as I think that the discussion clarifies one of the issues you have raised. Moderating is an imperfect "art" done with some imperfect software. We do what we can to make our boards a pleasant place for most. |

If any of you hungering for guppis happen to have any recent "lost" or "ghost" tasks in your task lists, you might have some guppis there and there's always the "report the same task twice trick" available to retrieve them. See Message 1798083. I had 9 lost tasks from a snafu last week, 7 of which were guppis, and just retrieved mine a few minutes ago: 8/22/2016 1:56:49 PM | SETI@home | Reporting 1 completed tasks |

The Arecibo work certainly is boosting everybody's RAC for the contest. . . CPUs actually like Guppis (well mine do anyway). They run quicker than normal AR work so yes your RAC would go up. But normARs definitely run better than VLAR work on GPUs. If you are interested there is a thread about optimising your rig by rescheduling assigned work to the most appropriate device. . |

Not true, My GPUs squash any CPU calculation of VLARs The issue is, how do you have your system set up, what kind of GPUs and what modifications of the system have you done. Zalster |
