I am going to refer you to my dr. visit mentioned in the Train thread, and tell you about it. For a few years now, half of my right index finger nail has been thick and white instead of the normal translucent. I've been treating it for a fungal infection with no result. Finally, I went to see a dermatologist last week on a different matter and asked her about this too. She said if it hadn't responded to the treatment by now, it probably wasn't a fungus and offered to biopsy it. I went back today for that. The anesthetic was the worst part, a series of injections all around the base of the finger, including in the web. Then she left it to soak in for a while. Further injections at the end weren't as bad. After that, I hardly felt anything at all, just getting the impression she was digging and scraping and tugging the nail. I was surprised to finally look down and see some blood. They'd said there would be, but it was still surprising to see after not feeling anything. The nurse wrapped it up and gave me the script for Tylenol with codeine. I drove that over to my pharmacy and waited for it, then drove back to McDonald's across the street from the dr.'s office for some dinner. Right now, it just aches like the bandage is too tight (which I'm sure it's not), but I'm fairly sure it's going to hurt like hell later. Therefore, I think I will go to bed early.
