I have reported the police to the RSPCA and pledged £2500 towards the cost of taking them to court for animal cruelty. I have also reported their Chief Constable to the Home Office. The dog had gone missing from a hunt and police said the owner supported the force's decision. Chf Supt Sacha Hatchett said: "He [the owner] said he appreciates that given the risk to human life, the officers made the correct decision. He is supportive of the police as had there been a serious accident he said he could not have lived with himself." http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-north-west-wales-35650395 |

Funny how some people's minds work(or don't work). No matter what the subject it always rolls back around to those 'blood thirsty American Cops'. Better hope you never need one.........http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_29556652/park-county-sheriffs-deputy-killed-two-others-wounded "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

I have reported the police to the RSPCA and pledged £2500 towards the cost of taking them to court for animal cruelty. I have also reported their Chief Constable to the Home Office. Some official asked the question how much money is to be spent attempting to control one dog? Do we shut down the motorway so that people aren't put in danger? Expect that runs the risk of a distracted driver rear ending the stopped traffic. Apparently an officer had already been bitten meaning the animal had to be recovered for a rabies test. It says firearms officers were called, but obviously they were not able to get into a position with a clear background to fire. That leaves very few options, especially if you don't have a game warden with a tranquilizer firearm handy, or are in a gun crazy culture where officers carry less than lethal options of tasers and bean bag shotguns, all of which could be used where backgrounds aren't completely clear. No I don't like that they ran the dog down with a car. I much would have preferred the dog to cooperate and be leashed. Here in Southern California the CHP has to deal with dogs on the road several times a day. 99% of the time the dog is so frightened and confused it just runs along the side of the road and doesn't cross traffic lanes. That is when they are pretty easy to catch, frankly they mostly want to be caught. When they get into traffic lanes, people can and have died. Especially when some nut stops their car in traffic, gets out and chases the animal. |

I for one welcome our titanium beaked overlords. I can see it now... Scientist 1: This bird needs a new beak, what should we make it out of? Scientist 2: TITANIUM, one of the hardest metals known to man! Scientist 1: YES! Clearly the scientists are under the spell of the feathery overlords :) Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

I have reported the police to the RSPCA and pledged £2500 towards the cost of taking them to court for animal cruelty. I have also reported their Chief Constable to the Home Office. God bless you. I did not read the original article. The headline was enough to let me know it would not make me happy. A lot of dogs being shot by police here in the USA. I started blogging each instance, but several days in I got too depressed to continue. (I'm deducing this was the subject of the article based on your response, Chris.) ~Sue~ |

I used to have an orange-winged amazon parrot. I miss him. I dream about him frequently. Dreamed about him last night. I did a stupid thing taking him outside without having had his wings clipped. I'm so sorry and still in pain for that stupid, stupid move. ~Sue~ |

Doesn't dog owners have a responsibility? In this case a hunter (training fox hunt?) with his/hers dog running loose close to a motorway. |

We have a law where I live that dogs must be leashed or fenced in - under the owner's control somehow. A couple of nights ago my friend posted that she'd hit and killed a small dachshund that darted out in front of her car. If that happened to me: First, I would have to get out of my car, sit down, and cry uncontrollably for some time before I would be able to continue on my way. Second, I'm sure I would call the police and have a report filed. Then I would insist that the owner be cited for disobeying the law. Third, I would sue the owner in court for as much as I could get for my pain and suffering. I have no doubt I could find many people who would testify to my love for animals. I would do this to send a strong message to those people who like to let their animals out running around without supervision. I would ensure that it got national news coverage to let the nation know what's at stake (besides the lives of their animals - about which I strongly believe they don't give a damn, anyway). Just reading about the event - my friend, who is also an avid animal lover - killing a cute little dog in the road like that, brought me to tears. Jann - I think in most places dog owners have responsibilities to keep their dogs controlled (on a leash, or whatever), but in some cases - like the repulsive fox hunt - the dogs have to run free, and are allowed to run free. I have to say again that I did not read the article. ~Sue~ |

Jann - I think in most places dog owners have responsibilities to In this case it was most likely a beagle or a foxhound. Those dogs shouldn't be allowed to run free. No matter where. They are bred to hunt in wild chases like wolves. |
