JE... I believe their response will as childish and schoolyard as always.
It seems that besides the militia, there are more undisciplined & undependable around, Sherman must be turning in his grave. Bit childish of a history professor to home in on one particular word rather than comment on historical facts.

Here's an example of that undisciplined and unreliable militia at work......

Two LEGALLY armed citizens, with carry licenses, fired on the perp, one striking and killing him.

By the way you need to research your acronyms more carefully before using them.

S.A.W. SQUAD AUTOMATIC WEAPON.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M249_light_machine_gun

And since no one is allowed to carry such a weapon on the streets of America legally NO.

Semi Automatic Weapon. As most discussion on this particular thread concerns them, SAW saves a lot of hassle with Repetitive Finger Strain :-)

Being ex-Army, I'm fully aware of Squad Automatic Weapon.

I've used SAW for sometime on this thread to refer to Semi Automatic Weapons & You're only now nit-picking about that use - Shame on you :-)

Diversion is a tactic described in 'Rules for Radicals'...........some get upset when their own playbook is used against them.

@ Sirius, how about 'handgun'(which covers both revolver and auto-loader), 'long gun'(which covers auto loader, bolt and pump action) and Shotgun(which pretty much is self explanatory)?

If a specific sub category is discussed then it should be specifically identified by those in the discussion.

How about, automated weapons, non-automated weapons.

Just personal protection ...
June 19 (UPI) -- Local and federal authorities are investigating a Southern California man they say illegally stockpiled more than 500 firearms at two Los Angeles-area homes, officials said.

Police searched the home of Manuel Fernandez in Agua Dulce, 30 miles north of Los Angeles, after receiving a tip that he kept hundreds of firearms there.

The total number of firearms found -- 553.

Due to the large number of firearms recovered, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to help with the investigation. Federal agents are trying to determine how the guns were purchased.

No, just a convicted felon.

Yes, a person who shouldn't be able to get even one. 553 reasons that every gun transfer must go through a background check before it is completed.

"Sources said the owner appears to be a firearms collector as opposed to someone about to use the guns in crimes."
There are at least two sides to every story, but the fact of being a convicted felon is a large problem depending on what the conviction was for.

Another point of view.........in some parts of the US, that would be a minor collection.
