I really enjoy the 'talking heads' on news programs when they try to translate the Latin botanical name for the plant.

Amorphophallus Titanum. Linguistic analysis of the first name makes most reporters very nervous when 'on air'.

It's not known if the skunk was born with only three legs or lost one in an accident, and the family has no plans to try to find out.

Why not? Now THAT would make a very entertaining YouTube video..........

Get the one for humans, up here they are the cheaper buy!

The one for humans? You mean someone makes them for
non-humans?

Not strictly a critter, but here's a live webcam on the blooming Amorphophallus titanum (Corpse Flower) at the Denver Botanic Gardens. 5 feet tall and stinks like a dead body, but beautiful.

I'm still catching up with this thread. There is also one of those plants, named Spike, at the Garfield Park Conservatory in Chicago. I believe they said they will pollinate it with frozen pollen from one in San Diego.

Pollen was extracted from 'Stinky' yesterday and frozen for distribution to gardens around the country.

Is that why they cut a square out of the "petal" (I
assume that's what it is) down toward the bottom
of the plant? I've seen that square cut out of two
of the plant videos I saw on YouTube. (Different
plants.)

Do you know any Haircutting Systems for poodles?
Their hair is really thick and you cannot use a scissor.

Tosca says Arf Arf.

There must be something. Dog groomers all over the world
must have something they use for poodles.

Tosca is very, very cute.

Yes, since the petals don't fully open, a hole must be cutthrough from the outside and a 'sticky' paper inserted through to capture the pollen. At DBT they cut through the side that wasn't facing the public viewing glass.

I have caught up on this thread... only another hundred or so to go...

Good late evening my end everyone :)

*stop to consider impact of first post for AGES...*

...and all of you too of course.

Loads of lovely clips and photo's and so glad that Fergus the retriever is recovering well, Gary :)

I've kind of given up on my hair now. It's trying to retreat back inside my head from what I can tell. Don't worry *smile reassuringly at setizens* there's plenty of room in there for it. Its "there's a tumbleweed stuck in your hair madam" effect is also very good for distracting other people's attention away from the grey :)

NICE avatar Zoom! I keep meaning to revamp mine.

I'm definitely not going bald, thick strawberry blond hair, hairline of a teenager and no grey, not bad for 55..
