At around 3-5pm in the afternoon at most post office in South London, we have massive queues of people waiting to be served. Why? Held up by Ebayers coming out of the woodwork wanting to post the days sales This is interesting. I always understood Britain to be efficient with time. People waiting in line seems to be the influence from the first American department store Selfridges in Britain in 1909, the first department store allowing browsing while shopping. Browsing only adds more people waiting in line. Browsing in the early 1900's in London was considered rude and in a sense it uses up more time. Special thanks to Netflix for the documentary of Selfridges & Co. |

Perish the thought of Ebay delivery drones like Amazon want to introduce ..... I think ebay won't do any drones, delivery there is every seller for themselves, soon ebay and paypal are splitting up into seperate companies.. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

A true Briton, when standing alone at a bus stop, will form a queue of one. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

soon ebay and paypal are splitting up into seperate companies.. They were separate companies to start with, and ebay bought Paypal to make things easier for everybody (and to make more money for themselves). It was announced on September 30, 2014, that eBay would spin off PayPal into a separate publicly traded company, a move that was demanded already in 2013 by activist hedge fund magnate Carl Icahn. Ah, that jerk. Guys like him and Ackman (I think I got that name right) should be taken out back and shot. soon ebay and paypal are splitting up into seperate companies.. Icahn a while back made a move on the fire truck factory. Thankfully, the shareholders declined the offer and fought him off. He finally gave up and went on to other nefarious pursuits. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

When I have the money, I play for keeps, if I'm bidding.. I tend to be like that when I bid. I wait for the 7 second mark, then bid. |

It wouldn't surprise me if in the UK the HMRC do monitor some of the more prolific sellers. Oooh, look, somebody's been busy :-) Net companies face "Tax Crackdown" |

I happen to ebay a LOT. Computer bits, car bits. I should be lost without that resource. I find things there that are not available anywhere else, not even on Amazon. One must be a bit careful about the seller. I got burned just once back in my early days.......seller sent me an empty box worth a grand that was supposed to have a nice shiny CPU in it. He was a scam artist, and I was able to prove that his package never contained the goods......... It weighed less than the goods when he proffered it to the mail service, and I was able to get his posting receipt to show that. The CPU and heatsink were good for a couple of pounds, and his package weighed a few ounces when sent. I did finally prevail, and recovered my loss. As I recall, it was mostly due to my credit card company and not ebay. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Well done Mark. I suspect a lot of folks would have just moaned and shrugged their shoulders and done nothing about it. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

That has changed. Yes I had lost more than a thousand dollars on ebay over the years, but Ebay has been changing sellers policies in recent years. This is an effort to reduce their own losses. To keep buyers happy, Ebay now insures all transactions. The square trade program. If the buyer is not happy he/she can open a claim. Ebay will put pressure on the seller to settle the claim. If the parties don't settle then ebay will. And the buyer always wins. Any pay out that Ebay makes will be charged to the seller's account. If you are new seller they will not have released the payment to you until after a chance of a claim has passed, typically 14 days. If there is no claim, then they release the money to the seller. If there is a claim, then keep what it cost them to settle. They have also put caps on how much you can sell. If your trusted, the number can be large. If you have several complaints, the number will be low. As a seller you cannot leave negative feedback against a buyer. But the buyer can against the seller. The system now favors buyers big time. |

I had one bad experience with a buyer. I sold a CPU and motherboard. About 6 months after the sale, the guy claimed the CPU was bad and wanted a refund for the who amount. It was still under Intel's warranty so I responded that I would be happy to refund the purchase price if he would return both the CPU and motherboard. He claimed to have thrown both away. I refused to issue a refund. He filed a claim with eBay. eBay made the same offer. Return the items and they would force me to refund the purchase price. I sent eBay a copy of the email where he said he had thrown the items away. He sent a package to me. I knew the package did not contain the CPU and motherboard. So I videoed all sides of the package to prove it had not been open, the opened it on the video. It contained a brick. I wrote and called eBay to let them know the buyer was scamming us both. They still issued the refund and charged my account. That is the one time I ended up suing eBay. They did settle out of court and issued a refund plus a small amount to cover legal fees and costs. |

I only do ebay anymore for hard to find stuff and only to buy, I've got nothing worth selling, outside of a busted tv, then it would be pickup only. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Doh! Teens sold iPhones that were Play-Doh bricks, police say Ouch, at least the teens got some nice parting gifts, new clothes and bracelets, the store got its money back I'd think, iDoh's. What's next? PSDoh4's? Of course with no opportunity and almost no hope, how many of us would do something like that and how many would try to resist? I'd guess not many.. Amtrak now has an eBay account. http://www.ebay.com/usr/amtrakofficial They're selling (mostly) parts removed from AEM-7 electric locomotives as they are retired and before they go to scrap. Large/heavy items are local pickup only, at Washington Union Station; one such item currently is an engineer's seat. You may, but should not, be surprised by how much horns are going for.
