Stop calling men sexist and maybe they'll listen more.( That's not an order.) Why? Why shouldn't you point out when something is sexist? If we are talking about racism, we also point it out when people behave in a racist manner right? And its downright stupid to suggest that we should stop calling people racist when they act like racists, just to spare their feelings and hope that they will listen to us. So why should it be any different for sexism? |

You are still telling women what they should and shouldn't do, that is sexist. Patronising maybe, sexist no. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

You are still telling women what they should and shouldn't do, that is sexist. Sexism and patronizing attitudes are not mutually exclusive. In fact, I would argue that a lot of patronizing attitudes are informed by sexism. |

You are still telling women what they should and shouldn't do, that is sexist. An interesting paper on differentiating hostile and benevolent sexism: "In common discourse, paternalism and sexism is often used synonymously..." Benevolent Sexism |

You are still telling women what they should and shouldn't do, that is sexist. ABSTRACT The questions the authors address in this chapter can be traced over two decades of work by J. T. Spence and her colleagues. More than any other single researcher, Spence has sought to establish the content of beliefs about women, to determine whether these beliefs are merely descriptions of women or prescriptions for how women ought to be, and to document what has changed and what has remained the same in attitudes toward women across decades of social turmoil in male–female relations. This article addresses the issue of whether gender stereotypes are purely descriptive expectations or prescriptions that are enforced through punishment when they are violated. Implicit in the question is the notion that "feminine" women are seen as very likable but as less competent than men. I have found the questionnaire online, you can now test your level of ambivalent sexism for yourself. The Ambivalent Sexism Inventory "How can adoration qualify as sexism? To answer this question, you are invited to take the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory and explore the dual nature of prejudice toward women. The inventory takes roughly 5 minutes to complete, and afterward you can compare your level of sexism with the scores received by people from around the world." Reality Internet Personality |

I have found the questionnaire online, you can now test your level of ambivalent sexism for yourself. The questionaire doesn't work for me. When I want to submit the answers it says I haven't filled everything in yet. |

I have found the questionnaire online, you can now test your level of ambivalent sexism for yourself. I think you have to give it your info so it can compare your statistics. I notice not many people have posted their results, so perhaps you are not the only one having this problem. I did it and came out with a very low Hostile Sexism score (about 0.25) and a score of just over 1 for the benevolent sexism. So even people who try to monitor their internalised sexism can still have some sexist attitudes. Reality Internet Personality |

Mmmmm... On the basis of trying to be extreme and only answering a 0 or 5, I returned: Hostile Sexism Score: 0.00 Benevolent Sexism Score: 0.91 Interesting for the idea behind the questions. For myself, not so sure about some of the wording used... But then, such searching quizzes are very difficult to word to avoid any bias across all cultures. Curiously, why the special question for Hispanic/Latino? And from the average scores shown, we've a long way to go to escape from the Mad Max - Andy Capp 'macho' stereotypes...
