I've only been seeing information on this from Fox News; I haven't seen anything run on regular, main stream news. (Not to say they haven't run the story; just that I haven't seen anything.)

ANY customer/client of Anthem Blue Cross, (or just Blue Cross going back to 2004), may be affected. To get more information on this, go to

Anthem Facts/All Clear ID

I HIGHLY recommend calling the toll free number. I did, and got registered with All Clear ID in 24 Hours; my parents went through the Web Link at that site, and STILL have NOT been contacted by All Clear.

According to Fox News, it is suspected that the Chinese are behind the hack. The hackers were able to get names, birth dates, addresses, social security numbers, and, (if provided by customers/clients to Anthem), e-Mail addresses. This is ALL the information necessary to obtain a home loan, credit card(s), or submit a fraudulent tax return to the IRS.

The immediate step to take, (if you are one of the affected customers/clients), is to contact one of the three major credit reporting agencies and place a Fraud Alert on your file. Whichever agency you contact will then contact the other two major reporting agencies. This Fraud Alert will be active for 90 days, giving you time to go through the All Clear ID registration process. Anthem is paying for TWO FULL YEARS of Credit Protection through All Clear ID. (Similar to LifeLock.)

You should also contact the IRS, (they will take MUCH longer to respond; UP TO 180 days from first contact with IRS), they will direct you to download a form. The Identity Theft Department for the IRS is 1-800-908-4490. Be prepared to be on hold for over 30 minutes before you get an agent. They will direct you to download and fill out Form 14039 which, once completed, can be faxed in to the IRS with copies of your driver's license and social security card as proof of identity. This will open your IRS Identity Theft case. Fax the form and proof of ID to 1-855-807-5720. In 180 days from the fax date of the forms, you will receive a letter from the IRS instructing you on what to do next.

One of my doctors has been affected by this hacking of information. He is receiving fraudulent e-Mails claiming to be from the IRS claiming he owes money. The IRS WILL NEVER send you e-Mail, nor call you. They will ALWAYS send you US Postal Mail for correspondence.

Please, take care, everyone. Good luck, take care, and protect yourselves to the best of your abilities with the information I am providing here.

Scott, the IRS will only get involved if someone used your info to file a fraudulent return or they suspect it. If you have lived all your life in California and now you show income from let's say Alabama and get the dreaded letter, then a 14039 is called for.

Yes, I am part of the Anthem hack, ditto for Home Depot and the rest. The thing is to stay on top of your credit report.

Now if Experian would just let me in their dispute portal, evenso I am coping and pasting, things would be good.

Eric and I were part of the hack and we got a letter notifying us. We signed up for the credit monitoring service they offered. I'm not going to worry about it more than at a monitoring level.
