Same here, only it's 55F today, vs 69 yesterday.

Watching the rain take the white blossoms off my almond trees. Hope the bees got enough of them this past week, so I have a few almonds for the birds to eat later in the summer...

Two clusters of kitties on the patio. One on the rug next to the back step, another on the chaise lounge. And if I stick my head out the door, I can just see a couple neighbor cats under the citrus trees....

I hope my few feral friends have made it through this week.
2f here now.
Going below zero for the next 3 nights in a row.
My indoor kitties shall be safe and contented.

I put some kitty food outside on the porch for some not as well kept.
They do come by and eat it once in a while.
Just because they don't have names does not mean they are not loved.
Cats are important to me, even if they don't exactly live under my roof.

I still try to protect and care for those who live just outside of my direct care. There is one particularily beautiful completely black male that I wish I could coax into being a kept kitty. But I have tried for a few years to no avail.
He acknowledges me, will sometimes come up and purr, but the second I make any move to hold him, off like a shot.
He just has to be his own kitty, I guess.

I am thinking though, that it is time.
Time for me to go out for another visit to the shelter and bring one back with me.
Squirrel has been gone a long while now, and although the pain of her departure STILL comes on strong at times, I think it is time for a new kitty to have and hold.
I shall never know the likes of Squirrel again, but...I still have a lot of kitty love to share with a special someone.

Time I reopened my kitty heart to one in need.
There are so many...hard to choose just one.

Cat facts....

The Overpopulation Crisis

For every person born in the U.S., 45 kittens are also born.

3,500 kittens are born each hour in the U.S.

Only 1 of 12 kittens finds a home through a humane society (national average).

Female cats can breed as young as 4 months old, and will continue to produce an average of 3 litters per year, with 4 to 6 kittens per litter. If each of these offspring is not spayed and neutered, this one fertile cat can theoretically produce more than 420,000 kittens in only 7 years...11.5 million kittens in 9 years...and so on (these figures are based on a conservative average of 2 litters per year with 2.8 surviving kittens per litter).

Those are staggering theoretical figures, but even half the math shows you just how dire the situation is.
So my saving even ONE is something I have to do.

Check out Murphy kitty....

Oh sure Chris and Angela, rub it in.

(By the way, that is -40C. Which in F is, um, er, -40.)

Warnings
3:43 PM EST Sunday 22 February 2015
Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

London - Parkhill - Eastern Middlesex County
Strathroy - Komoka - Western Middlesex County
A period of very cold wind chills is expected.

As has been the case quite often this winter, bitterly cold arctic air is returning to Southern Ontario tonight in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front. Stiff northwesterly winds combining with very cold, possibly record setting minimum temperatures will once again result in extreme wind chills of minus 40 to minus 30 overnight and Monday morning.

People planning to be outdoors should dress appropriately and exercise caution. Exposed skin may freeze in as little as 10 minutes.

Wind chills will slowly improve somewhat Monday afternoon as temperatures moderate for a few hours. However latest indications suggest wind chills in many areas will dip back to near minus 30 again Monday night as this frigid arctic air mass prevails over the region.

Sorry Bill.

If it is of any consolation, when I ventured outside I found it to be surprisingly windy, so I had to go back inside and find a light sweater.

Bill. You the man. I'll stay down here in Oklahoma. My stepmom's dog goes to the door and the cold air blasts at her. Then she goes "You have a warm indoors spot. And you expect me to freeze mine out there?" Then I have to get the leash for a walk in the fenced in yard.

@ Anniet and SuzieQ, sorry to hear about your loss.

@ Chris Didn't you also sponsor a Donkey, or has he crossed the rainbow bridge.

@ Mark glad to hear, you are ready for young blood in your home.
Sunday nine days ago, I saw a red kitty, who was not sure about me walking on the sidewalk. For what ever reason part of her tail was missing. I talked to her for about five minutes, while she was considering how to proceed to her destination. She finally decided to go into the street only about two feet from the sidewalk to get around me. Then back to the sidewalk. Haven't seen her since, so I hope she has a home.
This morning, a cat looking like Tessie, got on my windowsill and meowed, after watching Tinkerbell and Tessie how they let me know how they want in. It looked to be about six to eight month old. It got scared, when I got up to open the window.

It is getting warmer, so I may open the kitty window during the day and see what developes.

Just send a money order to Danimal to get Midnight fixed. I may just have a new doggie companian for Ruta, come this weekend.
OOH and Ruta, may have bad teeth. Currently she is receiving antibiotics, which is also helping her doggie cold. Need to catch up with the Vet in the next few days, Cookietaster took her in for me, the get an idea of the best way to treat her condition and $ involved.

Hope you don't mind the long update, but I was a bit behind in posting updates.

I thought I heard fruit bats jumping about on the roof and managed to run out the back door just in time to catch sight of a Ringtail Possum running along the top of the fence and into the trees. Now I have noisy fruit bats and possums.

Sounds like one or both are trying to drive you Batty, Monday.

I watched "Big Hero 6" today. It was a good movie. Then I realized that I was watching a "Avengers" movie. Then it became a game of spot where this scene or item came from. The writing team were Marvel fans that also liked anime and manga with a dash of other Sci-fi shows.
