Yep Julie, it'll most likely be that. You do try to give them a start in life, but you can only do so much :-)

The plate on the far left: what do you call those in British, and what's inside them?

They look to me like teacakes. Scones are a bit different.

Scone is pronounced like...actually i'm leaving that particular can of worms closed for now.

Wimp!

A scone is not pronounced as stone, it is pronounced as gone.

Deep meadows yet, for to forget
The lies, and truths, and pain?... oh! yet
Stands the Church clock at ten to three?
And is there honey still for tea?

Rupert Brooke, 1912

And scones :-)

I can't tell just what their composition is, but they look like what we call biscuits. Jam would be an appropriate filling for them, if they are. My idea of a scone (which I think I know how you pronounce, although I'd probably say it like stone for clarity if speaking to another American) is a little bit denser than a biscuit.

(Yes, I know, what you call a biscuit is totally different, what we call a cookie.)

My dear chap, breadbuns are correctly called rolls. Clearly you hail from north of Watford.

220 miles north, according to Google Maps.

I just went to make a cup of tea, then threw the teabag in the sink and the spoon in the bin! I'm a clot!

I have that all the time, once walked back to my desk at work, coming from the toilet, holding a toilet roll, I thought it was my can of soda but I left that in the toilet...
