Some kitty concern closer to home today.
Lori called late last night and said Starbucks kitty was having problems. She was a bit shaken up.

He is swallowing with difficulty, and has a lump on his throat. He ate a bit last night, but not his usual. I asked, and she said he seemed to be breathing OK.
She said earlier in the week, she caught him chewing on a broom with plastic bristles, and we think maybe he got one caught in his throat somewhere.
At least hoping that is what the problem is, and not a tumor of some kind.

So, off to the vet for Starbucks this morning, assuming he was OK through the night.
I should know more in a few hours.

Meowing for Starbucks.

Well, Starbaby is back home from the vet. Prognosis is fine.
It appears that what we have here is......a kitty with furball induced constipation. Yup.

X-rays showed nothing in his throat, but a lot of little knots of furball in his intestines. Not totally blocked or requiring surgery at this point. But enough to be causing him discomfort. The vet thinks that this discomfort was causing him to start licking excessively, which then dried out his mouth and throat and that is what was making him seem like he was having swallowing problems.

So, Starbucks is locked in Lori's sunroom for now with his own litterbox so she can make sure he poops in the next day or so. If not, he'll have to go back to the vet so they can coax his intestines along with a kitty enema.
Hopefully, the furball remedy medicine loosens things up and things take their natural course.

TL, posted this story awhile back. :-)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — For the first time, a Los Angeles shelter's Hero Dog award has gone to a cat.

In May 2014, Tara the cat fought off a dog that attacked her 6-year-old owner as he rode his bicycle in the driveway of his Bakersfield home.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles says Tara body-slammed Scrappy, a chow-mix that lived next door.

I've seen the equivalent of that, Cats are like 4 legged Ninjas, armed to the teeth and the sharp claws, a dog that weighs 20-30lbs better beware, of a cat that weighs 10lbs...

If I could, I'd let Siyah run away again, maybe your Sauron will come back then, Es.

I don't think it works like that, Julie.

No Sauron. I have not found any sign that she has been hurt or attacked, she has just vanished into thin air. :(

I spent my birthday on Monday going around all the local animal shelters. On Tuesday I posted another load of posters around the neighbourhood.

A neighbour just stopped by to say they had seen a black cat being carried off by a coyote 'a while ago'. Not sure of the time frame, and there are a few missing black cats around here...but it doesn't sound good. :(
