There's a little neighborhood station near me that is always at least 10 cents higher than stations even a mile away, but people still buy it there out of convenience.

I have a Texaco-branded local chain Mini-Mart 3 blocks from my house. Unleaded regular is $4.09 cash, $4.19 credit, and has not changed in 6 months. The Valero station 3 blocks west of there, and across the freeway, is $3.89 cash, $3.94 credit.

That's interesting you mentioned Valero. The first one I've ever seen is being built near a highway exit, here, and it is a really nice looking brick building they're putting up.

Now that is interesting that the gas stations charge more for credit than for cash. The nearest we have to that over here is the corner shop having a minimum purchase of £5 to pay with a card. The owner says he has to do that to offset the bank charges.

But we are becoming a cashless society, All London buses are mow cashless and you pay using Oyster cards, or a contactless payment card.

Do your stations put a .9 on the end of all the prices?

I pay around €50 for a full tank. I use the unleaded gasoline, €1,516 per liter, expensive I think...

Out here all stations do this, that's why gasoline is $3.959 at Food for Less, I usually look for the least expensive gas here. Which does not display the last digit of the price and $3.85 is not real, not yet at least, I went and bought about 3.536 gallons of gasoline on the card and the lowest price was still $3.959...

Yep, I have seen that. But when prices go sky high, there are lines at the stations with lowest prices. People should remember that during normal times.

Gas here in central Florida for the last few weeks has been hovering around $3.75/gal for regular grade, $3.90 for premium. The owner's manual for my 2000 Eldorado says I should use premium grade but over the last four years I have put a lot of mid-grade gas in her tank.

Edmonton Alberta Canada gas is 1.169 @ liter

Its hovering around the $1.50 mark here in Vancouver.

I still think it is cheap compared to the UK, however, things are further apart here and the public transport isn't as good (although it isn't actually bad tbh).

..

Unless I am being misguided the current price of petrol in the UK is 27% higher than it should be, and from what I can see, mainly due to government taxes. Chancellors over the years have seen fuel duty as a cash cow to balance the Treasury's books. High time the public fought back!

* 1 litre is equal to 1 cubic decimetre or 1/1000 of a cubic metre.

I disagree, Chris. With climate change being the biggest threat to humanity right now, people need to be forced out of their cars or forced into more economical ones. To be fair, the higher gas prices have drive innovation to more fuel efficient cars in Europe, which is now spreading to the U.S. as people realise the all round benefits.

What you should be complaining about is the ridiculously high cost of public transport in the UK. It shouldn't be cheaper to fly to Scotland than to take the train.

Has anybody stopped to think that climate change (warming) may on the whole be a good thing? We may be inconvenienced by having to rebuild our cities and some countries may suffer a loss of cropland but many like Canada and Russia may benefit from a warmer climate making more land farmable and bring a longer growing season.

Then there is the rise in sea level, thanks to the warmed up oceans which are melting the ice in Greenland and Antarctica, causing a drought along most of the west coast and extra rain storms/mudslides elsewhere.

For the rest of the world that speak proper English, Gas = Petrol

Petrol prices in the UK at July 2014

130.9p/litre, 79.8p or 60.9% went to the government (57.95p fuel duty and 21.82p VAT).

Or in real money £5.95 per gallon equivalent to $10.18.

Damn, now that is expensive!

But in terms of percentage it's not that much difference, here in austria 57.2% go to the government AFAIK.

I guess there's a lot of diesel cars in the UK also these days? Here we have around 56% diesel (passenger cars only).

PS: I wanted to write something else then "Damn" first but I'm not sure, is the f-word allowed here?

Overall, in the UK 52% of all vehicles on our roads are running off diesel.

If I were to buy a car with a Diesel engine, it would be a VW Beetle.
