Message 1542920 - Posted: 17 Jul 2014, 3:58:15 UTC - in response to Message 1542915.

Thank you for the update Monday.
On the plus side, you already started to make some healthy soups. You don't have to use fresh Cauliflower, frozen works just fine too. Ditto for a few other vegetables.

Cauliflower is in season over here now and really cheap and tasty. It's one of the few vegetables I really like.

I like broccoflower, which is a cross between broccoli and cauliflower.

Never heard of it. Not too keen on broccoli but tolerate a few bits of it in Chinese take away.
Just had a lovely lunch of a lean pork chop with tomato, onion and red capsicum cooked in butter, pepper, soy sauce and a bit of cornflower to thicken up the juices.

Broccoflower is closer to cauliflower than broccoli, but it's light green, and has a hint of broccoli flavor.

Spaghetti squash is another one to try if you like squash.

Your capsicum, which I think is a bell pepper, is very good. I like them stuffed with tuna or cottage cheese. Incidentally, my turtles love them, too. ;~}

I buy frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, plus I sprinkle them with pepper to taste. These 3 veggies come in a 1lb bag, all combined already, I heat them in the microwave for 7.5 minutes, reheating takes only 2.5 minutes.

Yes capsicums in Oz and bell peppers in the US. They can be a bit expensive at times but are $2.99 per kilo at the moment. Green ones are usually cheapest and yellow and orange ones are always more expensive.
Sounds like your turtles are a bit spoilt.

I can usually get any color for 99 cents. Yes, my turtles love to eat, and they tear up peppers, but they do have a color preference. They like green the best. I can't tell the difference.

@ Vic. I'm not too keen on carrots either so I wouldn't be getting any of that mix.

Red and green ones taste different. I've seen them up to $9 a kilo at times.

Green, Yellow, Orange and Red are all just different stages of Bellpepper ripeness, I should know as I have grown them from seeds I'd planted at one time back in the 1980's.

I guess I had forgotten that. I know the same is true about habaneros.

It's fun to grow stuff. I might try that again sometime, but I really have a brown thumb. :~(

When I was in better shape and younger, I had a green thumb, I grew veggies and flowers.

Monday those pamphlets are for educational purposes only. No one asked you to turn your eating habits upside down. You already made great changes.
I hope you are not giving up your once a week Saturday slurge?

One Doctor and two Certified Diabetes Educator nurses have actually. My diabetes treatment consists entirely of special diet, exercise and weight loss.

No more KFC burga meals for a treat. I'll be having sushi today instead.

I know some people love sushi. I just don't understand the appeal.

I like it because it's low fat, low calorie, very tasty, healthy, easy to eat with false teeth and not messy. Also there is lots of variety and I just love the taste of pickled ginger, my favourite condiment.

Well, you certainly make a good case for it. To be fair, I've only tried it once, and that was about 17 years ago... :~0

I'm not into hot spices at all so I dont use the wasabi. It makes a difference too when it's made by experienced Japanese chefs. Where I get mine it's not as nice on Sundays when the casual staff are making it.
