For those who celebrate Memorial Day in the US.... We have a lot of gifts given to us through the sacrifice of others--the biggest of all being the freedom we enjoy. Please take a moment this weekend to give thanks to anyone you know who has served or is currently in the military. Please stay safe and Don't Drink and Drive! Happy Memorial Day! |

Some days ago, I went to make my annual pilgrimage to the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial with two friends. Here are two photos of this pilgrimage. It's me on the first photo, in full meditation. All my respect to every brave US soldiers. Happy Memorial Day to all ! I want to remind that this year we will celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day (1944-2014). Photo credit : Nicolas Boucard - 05-13-2014 (click to enlarge the photo) |

Lets see there was My Uncle He flew P39's in the Pacific I was told for the USAAF in WWII, My Brother who was in the US Navy from 1962-1982 and My Dad who served in Europe in WWII in the US Army, 3rd Army(Gen Patton commanding), 368th Medical as a Medic, North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Northern France and Occupied Germany until 1946, last night I learned on the History Channel some new info that I didn't know about WWII, the 3rd Army in 1945 Liberated a concentration camp, Dachau(that might be in error, but I don't know for sure), My Dad's unit the 368th was probably involved as there were Nurses and Doctors transferred there according to the History channel to help the victims and I think My Dad had a hand in that recovery(though that's only a guess, so far), from what I read Dr Mengele did heinous experiments on people there, no wonder My Dad didn't trust many Doctors after WWII. And then there is Myself, US Army, nuff said. Edit: Buchenwald was liberated by the Sixth Armored Division of the US Third Army. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Thomas, that is a super picture of the regular grid of crosses in the cemetery. As a contrast, here is the Ridge Wood Military Cemetery near Ypres which I visited recently. This was a front-line cemetery used by various units during the First World War. The graves were not lined up in the same planned way: Click the image for higher resolution versions. |
