I known I'm not well-known here, but this morning, at around 6:45 am, PST, March 17th, I lost the love of my life, Sagan the Cat. He was a little over 12 and a half years old, and lived through every hardship you could imagine. The house is very silent tonight. RIP Sagan the Cat, I have a cat too, She's 6yrs old and She adores Me. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Once they've finished breaking our chinaware they go and break our hearts. :( I'm so sorry and so soggy-eyed :( Their time on this earth seems so unjustly short - and their love gives such concentrated pleasure that it makes it all the harder for us when they're gone. The happiness Sagan has given you all of his life shines out from your sad words today and my thoughts are with you. A child once said to me after the death of one of our much beloved cats, "don't cry. The fairies will look after him till you can again." I didn't have the heart to tell her that I thought he might have seen them more as a light snack. I'd like to think she was right, and that he's behaving himself. Sagan will forever remain with you in your heart, and I've made room for him in mine too. So sad and so sorry, Anniet |

I want to thank the wonderful hearts of the SETI community who have shared their feelings and compassion with me. You have no idea how much it has meant to be part of such a fine group of people from everywhere. You who have written clearly know what I am going through. Again, thank you; you've made it easier for me. I'm glad that we have been able to help a little CC. Pain is the price we pay when we love, but it's a cost I know you would rather bear than not to have had the pleasure of 12 and a half years with Sagan beside you. :) Best wishes always, Anniet |

Maybe you can take some comfort in the fact, that I found a forever home for a puppy. I couldn't adopt it myself, as I have a very cranky 15 year old male living here. If a Rescue Kitty came along, things maybe a bit more doable. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

After my son's cat (Tats) died (sadly he got so upset after our rescued dog died :( that he suffered a stroke - nursed him for four weeks afterwards to much appreciative purring till one night he just drifted off to sleep in my lap and was gone) our other re-homed dog was heartbroken. One day he gave me such a sad look before going out in the garden. When I went to check on him about half an hour later I found he'd died, curled up beside where we'd buried his friends. :( Then my daughter's cat died of cancer, shortly followed by both her guineapigs. :( It was a horrible time. I was never going to have any more animals after that. But it wasn't the first time I'd vowed that. As a child growing up, animals were my best friends, much more trustworthy than humans, even when they were biting me :) but their life spans are so short compared to ours. :( Anyway, true to my word..... I now have nine cats, two frogs, a wingless bumble bee, a tailless squirrel, and a catfish called mouse. All refugees so to speak. Diego became ours when he was about to be thrown off the roof of a tower block. He is the most destructive cat I have ever come across but he is lovely, though not very bright and attempts to catch helicopters through closed windows. I took Jet in when he was about twelve weeks old after he'd been found next to his owner who had been dead for two weeks. He was probably my biggest challenge. He announced that he was hungry by sinking his teeth into whatever bit of me he could find and beginning to chew. Much blood later, I finally succeeded in inserting his tail into his mouth just as he was biting down, and he never bit me again. He is utterly adorable and collapses onto our feet every chance he gets. Then along came Nutmeg - she of much proliferation. :) She and her sister Chloe were dumped in a box beside some bins. Chloe died of a congenital birth defect two weeks after I took them in, but in those two weeks she captured my heart completely, then utterly broke it :( Nutmeg (her tortoiseshell sister) had arrived pregnant. The vet reckoned she was no more than 4 months old. She produced 15 kittens most of whom would have died if we hadn't started a major rotation of bottlefeeding. We managed to find five good homes for nine of them, and they were given with love, not sold. The smallest was born with a deformed paw. We kept her and named her Pawpaw. She is still tiny. Her remaining sister was deemed too ugly by her prospective owners who wanted a female so would not home any of the remaining four males, so we kept her too and the remaining boys. The frogs, Laurel and Hardy, are both blind but contented little fellows who potter about our pond, along with Smoky the squirrel, who is free to come and go as he pleases, but seems to spend most of his time in our tree. Mouse (our catfish) was deemed "too boring" and was going to be flushed down the toilet by a friend of a friend. He now has some other fishy friends and our cats now have their own Tv to watch instead of getting in the way of ours :) But, like you CC, I too don't see myself ever having another cat, dog, frog, whatever. Because when these guys I love so much die, which I know they will someday... I'm going to be a mess. :( I hope you're bearing up okay CC - best wishes as always, Anniet :) |

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my cat of 19 years, about a year ago. Our house is still quiet. I know how you feel. |
