Getting warmer....2nd of 3 days in the 80s.

I hope that's not the event we're waiting for.

Ping!

If it was, it would be here.

Wondering if my stock of AA batteries has sat beyond its shelf life. I put new ones in my blood pressure machine and it's even deader than before. Also put new ones in my TV/cable remote and it's not working any better than before. Need to check them with the meter. I'll check the old ones too, while I'm at it.

Actually, I didn't really think there was anything wrong with the ones in the remote. The U-Verse box has been acting sluggish lately and I thought I would just eliminate weak batteries as the cause of it before complaining to AT&T. What I'm afraid of is that they'll offer me a new box and I'll lose all the stuff on the DVR.

We've gone through three DVR boxes; and yes, you lose your content each time... However; you don't lose your DVR settings, those stay on their network. When they plug in the new DVR, it picks up where the old one left off, and the next program set to record, records as normal. Try new fresh batteries before you call them.

Also, try to keep your stock of batteries in the refrigerator. They last longer. (A trick I got from my paternal Grandfather. He was a Ma Bell retiree; and always kept his battery stock in the frig.)

:-)

[EDIT]

Good morning everyone. :-)

Winning without a DVR (or any desire or need for one).

David, is there no way to download your stored shows to a flashdrive or your computer? Seems poor design not to be able to back them up.....

Donald,

U-Verse currently has no way to allow one to "back up" anything off a DVR. (Neither does Comcast, Time Warner, nor DirecTV, nor Dish.) However, U-Verse is working on moving from DVR to Cloud technology. (Something I discussed with a U-Verse Technician a little while ago.) If/when they move to this technology; then instead of recording onto a hard drive on a DVR, one's shows on U-Verse would be recorded off site onto U-Verse hardware, and be permanently stored until the user chooses to delete them; or, they run out of designated Cloud space.

Back at the top, and WINNING!!!!! :-)

[EDIT]

Although, not technically "backing up"; U-Verse does allow you to connect a DVD-Recorder to a Non-DVR box in the house, (U-Verse 1200 or even the Wireless boxes), and re-record a show from DVR onto DVD. Doing this, one has the capability of cutting out commercials. This action does NOT work on TNT; nor, the paid movie channels. However; all regular commercial channels can be re-recorded onto DVD from DVR on U-Verse. DirecTV does NOT allow you to do this; and, I'm unsure of Comcast, Time Warner, and Dish.

How do they prevent you recording anything you want off the DVR to DVD? Just connect a set of analog cables and have at it, off any box.

I happen to know that Comcast has a deal with Verizon that lets you stream anything that's recorded on your Comcast DVR on your Verizon phone or tablet anywhere. Sounds good to me, but not good enough to switch to Comcast. Too many people I know bitch about it.

I checked the BP cuff batteries. Three were at 1.46V and one was about 1.0. The ones in the remote are a proper 1.6. The old ones from the remote are still 1.3 and in fact I used one of those to replace the bad one in the BP cuff and it worked. You're right, I should keep them in the fridge; we used to do that at work. They do need to warm up before they're full strength, though.

The new batteries in the remote did not help with the DVR. It just reacts slowly, even if all I do is hit the Guide button or change the channel. I hit a button and it takes a couple of seconds to do it.

The next post (unless someone has posted while I was typing this) will be the Munsters' address.

One would think that; however, they put copy protection on ALL of the movie channels and TNT. My DVD Recorder sees that protection, and REFUSES to record anything from those channels. SyFy works; as well as all commercial channels, except TNT who puts copy protection on their station. If you don't believe me, try it yourself, put any DVD Recorder onto a Non-DVR U-Verse box and hit record on TNT when they are showing Iron Man, or any other movie. It won't record. ...And, it MUST be connected to a Non-DVR box; if you try to put the DVD Recorder on the DVR directly, it puts out distortion on the audio channels to the DVD Recorder.
