Explosive new allegations surfaced about embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in court documents released Wednesday -- the same day the city council voted to ask him to take a leave of absence.

I thought he was going into Rehab?

Hating all things Toronto is an historical Canadian pass time. It is one of the few things that unites this wide spread and diverse country.

God bless you Rob Ford, for enabling this old and honourable tradition to continue.

You would think that he would be so embarassed that he would resign. Just goes to show that idiots can get elected anywhere.

Well he's certainly made the news over here several times lately and each time he's been made the butt of plenty of jokes.

Cheers.

Maybe Toronto can host a smoke crack with the Mayor fund raiser.

Johnson is just an amiable buffoon, this guy should not even be in office by the sound of it. In the UK apart from London of course, City and Town Mayors are ceremonial positions, it is the Checif Executive of the Council that runs things. They can and have been got rid of by a vote of no confidence. If the City of Toronto want rid of him there will be a way to force an election or something.

If the people talk to their Councillors to express their displeasure then something may be done. Toronto City Council

But what sort of job was he doing as mayor of Toronto ? Good, bad, or indifferent ?

Is the current fad to expect our politicians, sports people and other public figures to be epitomes of virtue correct or the best way ? Afterall look at the gormless, grey sludge we are getting as "leaders" and politicians world wide at this time.

Many of the great leaders of the past either had mistresses, drank heavily or had some kind of drug habit. These days, none of them would even gain pre-selection.

Personally, I don't care what the Prime Minister of my country or mayor of my city gets up to, as long as they are doing their job in the most effective manner and running the place for the benefit of the general population. Otherwise, I don't care who they bonk, (as long as their parter is consenting and of legal age) or what they drink, smoke or snort in their leisure time.

Toronto's city council votes overwhelmingly to strip Mayor Rob Ford of some of his powers, amid calls for him to resign over a drink and drugs row.
It's a step in the right direction. Nah, he should resign.

That's now, but what was the opinion of him before the sh*t hit the fan ?

He has taken the common (for Canada anyway) right wing approach to getting elected. He promised tax cuts that were impossible, and selected spending that excites a good portion of the voters but has no funding. He has implemented a small fraction of the plan - reality keeps getting in the way. However, every little cut in spending gets played to death in the right wing press. The mayor has his own radio talk show that is great at this. If you have ever listened to Canadian radio talk shows, you know where the mayor gets his voter support. Nobody can call this group an over educated, ethnically mixed, progressive thinking bunch.

The real story of how good a mayor he is will not be realized for several more years, when Torontonians look around and wonder where the paved roads, the libraries, the schools and the community services went, and where all the angry homeless, unemployed and under-educated people came from. We went through the same thing on a provincial level with Mike Harris' "Common Sense Revolution". His idea of common sense was to balance the budget by selling provincial infrastructure, cutting education and medical care spending, and cutting taxes to the rich. We finally saw though this and booted him out in 2002, but we are still short of doctors and nurses, short of skilled trades, and still pay big money for things the government used to handle - like fixing roads and picking up garbage. And Harris' old buddies are still getting rich providing those services.

Harris and Ford are from the same political party.

Ford continues to refuse to resign.
My opinion is that he has an over inflated sense of self worth. Growing up in a very wealthy family, the family business brings in over $100 million a year, he feels he deserves special treatment because of his special skills.
He truly believes that even in his booze and crack riddled state of mind, he's the only person capable of filling the position.
I can't wait to read the details of the accusation that he's spent time with some hooker too.

Tune in next week when Ford, the Peter Griffin of Canada, engages in a fight to the death with a chicken.

My personal vision of the future is waking up to a news report that Rob Ford has been found dead, face down in the gutter in some seedy neighbourhood of Toronto, clenching a joint and/or an empty vodka bottle in his cold hands. To my personal shame, I can't quite decide if this would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Oh, and the hooker stories have already started.

We should also point out that part of the reason the family brings in $100 million a year is that that daddy Ford is an old buddy of "common sense revolution" Mike Harris.

In Rob Ford's defense, he only smokes Crack that gives you the munchies.
He embodies all the core values of Right Wing Conservatives.
When Rob attends Halloween parties he goes as his idol, Rush Limbaugh,
which involves little more than ingesting a handful of Oxycontin.

And he apologizes for everything right after he gets caught, so it must be OK.
