As of Version 1.40 BoincTasks suspends VLAR's on the GPU. This is logged in the BoincTasks log. This got some users confused, as of SETI V7 VLAR's are send on a regular basis. I'm working on 1.48 and will switch this off in the default installation. It will be optional in the settings xml as suspend or abort and do noting as default. 1.48 should be there within 24 hours. My opinion on this is allowing an auto-abort of VLARs is not a good thing for the project. If it presents a big enough problem with the new apps on a large enough percentage of the GPUs on the project, I believe Eric shall address it as he had in the past. For now, I would say just live with it until things are sorted more fully. The kitties are crunching any and all work sent to them to the best of their abilities. And although a plodding VLAR is not what I would wish to see taking up my GPU time, I am not about to start sending them back to the project uncrunched. This has been a very large transition for the project, please give things time to settle. Just my opinion. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Fred, before you spend time on the options, might want to consider that what you now have is not working consistently. I've had VLARs almost all the time since v7 came out, but have had only 3 instances where the current feature kicked in and suspended them. Once was on BOINC startup and all VLARS present were suspended. The other two times were while the task(swere running, and only the running tasks were suspended, not the others on hand. I'm just looking for a version where it's disabled. I wouldn't use an option to abort, and I wouldn't want an option to suspend because thzt blocks work fetch. My opinion on this is allowing an auto-abort of VLARs is not a good thing for the project. Yep everything should go as planned. But on most cards, VLARs cause some serious problems. That's why I added an optional suspend and abort in the new 1.48. To make things clear this is only don for WU's that are marked as vlar in the file name and are intended for the CPU. Only GPU tasks are effected not CPU tasks. TThrottle Control your temperatures. BoincTasks The best way to view BOINC. Anza Borrego Desert hiking. |

Wait for 1.48 today or tomorrow. Will watch for it. And if you need someone for the dummy test, I'm very well qualified. :=) Will send you a pm about another minor thing with current versions. Another Fred Support SETI@home when you search the Web with GoodSearch or shop online with GoodShop. |

Here it is: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html Thank you. I will admit to not reading the notes!! Boinc Tasks has worked so well for me I just accept the new versions without really checking what they do!! Lesson learnt |

Here it is: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html That was fast. Wish some others could respond that quickly - won't name them, of course.... The Beta is installed and running. Another Fred Support SETI@home when you search the Web with GoodSearch or shop online with GoodShop. |

Here it is: http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download_beta.html Will this allow VLARs to be processed on GPUs? It seems that VLARs work well on Keplers and I would like to how long a task take to process. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=71866&postid=1376096 I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

But on most cards, VLARs cause some serious problems. I would like an option to auto-suspend them (VLARs on the GPU) during usage of the computer (to avoid lag) and auto-unsuspend them after set 'idle' time of not using the computer (no keyboard/mouse activity) Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |
