Car???
Seti is giving away cars???

They're auctioning off a moon buggy. Problem is... it's on the moon. ;-)

I got me almost enough creds to reach there and back........
If I fetch it, does it run on regular gas?

Nope (electric), nor regular gravity (apparently). It has less than 25 miles on the clock though.

Actually, the 'buyer to collect' stipulation isn't so bad... if you live near Hollywood ;)
Brian.

You really should post this type of question in the NC forum, or in the Q&A section, but:

You're still running anon. platform. Set your rig(s) to NNT, run out the old work and report it, then rename the app_info.xml to something else. Reset the project, and change back to accepting new work. Voila'!

You're running Setienhanced v6 apps on Anonymous platform, until you get a app_info with v7 apps in it you won't be able to run Setienhanced v7 Wu's, unless you remove the app_info and revert to the Stock apps.

1) All the Stock v7 GPU apps are Lunatics apps now!
2) You did go and enable 'SETI@home v7: yes' in your project preferences didn't you?
3) No, you copy and paste it from one of the posts in Number Crunching, and edit it to your requirements.

1: great! But Only GPU? Why not CPU Too? Sooner or Later?
2: NO, I didn't. Now I've done it on project page and I'v done "update" on the host 25 min ago. Nothing, untill now. Have I to reset again or have I only to wait?
3: What do you mean with (mine) requirements?

I have found this:

Make a new text file named app_config.xml and have this in the contents

<app_config>
<app>
<name>setiathome_v7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>.04</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

and this

<app_config>
<app> <name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
<max_concurrent>6</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.04</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

As I understand I will have V6 and V7, both GPU and CPU.
On some Hosts I run only one GPU task, on three ones I run two.

Sorry but I have to bump my message.
There are too many silly discussions and flames about "cars".
Forum should be left clean for important and tecnical info.
Avoid noise if you want info.

As mentioned in this very thread, there have been other more urgent issues that have required people's attention.

Spending too much time putting out the fires v7 started. Hopefully today I'll get to it.

Self induced. To be honest, moving to v7 was prepared poorly:

- no heads up message explaining what the changes are
- no quick guide for fixes that need to be done
- obviously no work ahead with lunatics developers, so they were not ready to provide an enhanced app and new installer for the v7

I'm disapointed how this is managed.

So, this is how the volunteers Seth Shostack (Sleestak - Land of the Lost?) has been asking for, are treated? I am so pissed off I could shit razor blades! After I enabled V7 I could not even navigate any of my 3 browsers to Berkely university websites... much less the SETI@home. I had to format my drive and re-install windows because I even have a hunch about users in here now and their custom worms. SO EFFIN SNAFU!

Sorry to those who work hard here, but... deal with it. You don't know how many YEARS I heard Seth on ART BELL radio ask for volunteers and now.. well you prob heard... if not.. I will say it again IM PISSED!

So go ahaead and worm my PC - you cant screw up my BIOS - can you? OMG - so trippy I am actually chattin w code writer supposed white hats! SH-ITE. I am going to write a blog about this SNAFU. Stand by you tards- My article will be on drudge I hope... unless I get apologies really effin quick

Quite the contrary. The move to v7 has gone smoothly other than the false positives reported by a few AV software.

- no heads up message explaining what the changes are

There doesn't need to be. The whole point of a project running under BOINC is that the science applications are updated automatically so that the scientists can ensure everyone is using the correct version they want to support.

- no quick guide for fixes that need to be done

No fixes needed. Everyone running the Anonymous platform took the responsibility upon themselves to keep the apps udpated manually. For the rest of the SETI users still using stock applications, they haven't noticed a thing as evidenced by not a single one complaining in here. Only those using the Anonymous platform are having issues, compounded by those that still can't tell the difference between BOINC and SETI@home.

It is not the Project's responsibility to instruct users of the Anonymous platform on what to do. If they took the responsibility upon themselves to install it, then they need to follow through with that responsibility and read up on what is needed to make it work again. The Project is only responsible for what they push out to users.

- obviously no work ahead with lunatics developers, so they were not ready to provide an enhanced app and new installer for the v7

Also very wrong. The Lunatics have donated their existing code base to the project, which was thoroughly tested in SETI Beta before being released here. This code might be a couple revisions behind, but the Lunatics also had to sort out their own issues with using the Intel Compiler and the copyright issues that it has brought upon them.

It only makes sense that the Lunatics delay their installer until the rollout has had some time to take effect. You don't need a simultaneous release.

I'm disapointed how this is managed.

...and I'm still amazed by what the Project Scientists have done with this project to keep it going.

Thanks guys!

So you blame Seti@home for something that they have no control over as it was a UC Berkely issue?

You do realise you're a paranoid goose don't you?

I honestly suggest you seek professional help. No one here can help you with the issues you have.

Seth Shostack is not, to the best of my knowledge, associated with the Seti@Home project. I believe he is part of the Seti Institute, a different organization working towards the same goal but by different means. You may have confused SetiLive with Seti@Home.

After I enabled V7 I could not even navigate any of my 3 browsers to Berkely university websites... much less the SETI@home.

As has been reported elsewhere in these Forums, there was an Internet outage on the Berkeley campus Friday night - widespread, cause not yet reported.

I had to format my drive and re-install windows because I even have a hunch about users in here now and their custom worms. SO EFFIN SNAFU!

Got no clue what you are talking about, been no problems with worms or viruses on this site for as long as I have been participating in the project. Only false-positive reports from certain Anti-virus software - see the AVG thread.

Seth Shostack has nothing to do with SETI@home. Seth has not been asking for volutneers to SETI@home. Seth has been asking for people to join the SETI Institute, which is unaffiliated with SETI@home.

Seth Shostack is also a moron.

If you're having issues, you should really seek help in the Number Crunching forum. No need to fill this thread meant for News with complaints about how pissed off you are. Fix your problem instead of complaining about it.

As an anonymous platform user myself that's been my opinion also.
Better to get the major rollout done & sorted before introducing yet more changes.

I have been with Seti@home for over a decade & have never head of Seth.
So i think you might want to go to his website & carry on like a tool. Whoever or whatever he is, he's not here.

http://www.seti.org/users/seth-shostak Seth Shostak
Senior Astronomer
Degree/Major:
PhD, Astronomy
Curriculum Vitae:
Shostak-CV2009.pdf

Seth claims to have developed an interest in extraterrestrial life at the tender age of ten, when he first picked up a book about the solar system. This innocent beginning eventually led to a degree in radio astronomy, and now, as Senior Astronomer, Seth is an enthusiastic participant in the Institute’s SETI observing programs. He also heads up the International Academy of Astronautics’ SETI Permanent Committee.

In addition, Seth is keen on outreach activities: interesting the public – and especially young people – in science in general, and astrobiology in particular. He’s co-authored a college textbook on astrobiology, and has written three trade books on SETI. In addition, he’s published more than 400 popular articles on science -- including regular contributions to both the Huffington Post and Discover Magazine blogs -- gives many dozens of talks annually, and is the host of the SETI Institute’s weekly science radio show, “Big Picture Science.”

the host of the SETI Institute’s weekly science radio show, “Big Picture Science.”

This is Seti@home, which has no affiliation with the Seti institute.
You're at the wrong web site.

Try here, the Seti Institute.
