NIGHT WATCHMAN-

Once upon a time the government had a vast scrap yard in the middle of a desert.

Congress said, "Someone may steal from it at night."

So they created a night watchman position and hired a person for the job.

Then Congress said, "How does the watchman do his job without instruction?"

So they created a planning department and hired two people, one person to write the instructions, and one person to do time studies.

Then Congress said, "How will we know the night watchman is doing the tasks correctly?"

So they created a Quality Control department and hired two people. One was to do the studies and one was to write the reports.

Then Congress said, "How are these people going to get paid?"

So they created two positions: a time keeper and a payroll officer then hired two people.

Then Congress said, "Who will be accountable for all of these people?"

So they created an administrative section and hired three people, an Administrative Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, and a Legal Secretary.

Then Congress said, "We have had this command in operation for one year and we are $918,000 over budget, we must cut back."

So they laid-off the night watchman.

NOW slowly, let it sink in.

Quietly, we go like sheep to slaughter. Does anybody remember the reason given for the establishment of the DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY during the Carter administration?

Anybody?

Anything?

No?

Didn't think so!

Bottom line is, we've spent several hundred billion dollars in support of an agency, the reason for which very few people who read this can remember!

Ready??

It was very simple... and at the time, everybody thought it very appropriate.

The Department of Energy was instituted on 8/04/1977, TO LESSEN OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL.

Hey, pretty efficient, huh???

AND NOW IT'S 2013 -- 36 YEARS LATER -- AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS "NECESSARY" DEPARTMENT IS over $24.2 BILLION A YEAR. IT HAS 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000 CONTRACT EMPLOYEES; BUT, LOOK AT THE JOB IT HAS DONE!

(THIS IS WHERE YOU SLAP YOUR FOREHEAD AND SAY, "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?")
34 years ago 30% of our oil consumption was foreign imports. Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Ah, yes -- good old Federal bureaucracy.

NOW, WE HAVE TURNED OVER THE BANKING SYSTEM, HEALTH CARE, AND THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO THE SAME GOVERNMENT?

Hello!! Anybody Home?

Signed.... The Night Watchman

Today 70% of our oil consumption is foreign imports.

Another lie repeated on the internet ad infinitum.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-02-08/trade-deficit-in-u-s-plunges-on-record-petroleum-exports.html
Record petroleum exports helped shrink the U.S. trade deficit in December to the smallest in almost three years as America moved closer to energy self- sufficiency, a goal the nation has been pursuing since the 1973 Arab oil embargo.

As long a oil is a global commodity the world price is what we will pay. A classic example of free trade.
As a interesting side note if you want lower oil prices stop the Key Stone pipe line so the tar sand oil from Canada is land locked and kept from the world market. At least the upper mid west will continue to have a relative glut.

Ah, but is it true or a BS number?

A BS number is so easy to manufacture for oil. You just take the number of barrels bought and compare with the number burned and give a number. But that is a lie. A lie because you didn't subtract the number of barrels exported. A lie because you are comparing barrels and not the energy content of the barrel. A lie because you didn't account for the number of barrels going into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

So without a cite to a source that can be checked as to methodology: Is it true or a BS number?

You are Smart Enough to Find The Source. A Presidential Candidate Should Be Able to find The Number.

It Is 45 Percent and includes All Your Methods of adding and subtracting.

Quit playing Frakking Games Soon To Be Prez.

We Import More Petroleum Now Than When The "Energy" Department was formed.

Can't Run The US on Domestic Bacon.

I always laugh out loud when extreme right government haters claim they have the inside story because they spent their lives in the public service.
If that's true, they are now sucking at the public service pension teet while talking shite about the structure that allowed them to make a living.

Teabaggers need to be dipped in boiling water.

And I do not diss you if the path starts stinking too much to follow.

If it is all not coming from across the pond, why are we not paying pennies for petrol like the Saudi's are.......

One answer.....our government gets too much money from the big oil interests and they are wallowing in profits.

If the percentage of energy resources coming from within this country is correct, and our 'freedom from foreign oil' is correct, we should have $1.00 gas at the pumps, minus perhaps the tax issues.

$3.95 at my last pumping.....don't seem like no energy independence to me.

Do the math, follow the money.

All the way to the White House.

I be going wit da Bacon Man on dis one.

Yep, taxes ...

If you bought that gallon in CA here is the tax breakdown ...
9% sales = $0.326 fed excise = $0.184 CA excise = $0.360 CA UST = $0.127 8.84% CA Corp = $0.261 35% Fed Corp = $0.942 TOTAL TAXES = $2.200 Energy Cost = $1.750

Gotta pay for those government pension plans for senators and congressman somehow ...

"Government is the shadow cast by business over society" - John Dewey

The corporatists have spent billions of dollars toward propaganda trying to focus the blame onto governments.
It seems to have worked on many of you.

Yes, governments set regulations. But. we've allowed the pampered greedy wealthy elites and the corporate sector the chance to control individual members of government with massive campaign contributions.
The US is a business controlled society.
Be angry with the corporations and get even by supporting the move to finance political campaigns with public money. Take away the opportunity to corrupt government by use of massive contributions from private sources.

Doesn't cost any more now then in the 50's to pump oil out of the ground. After the set up that cost has been made back LONG ago!
