Been reading, and it looks like this could well be a storm of truly epic proportions. Predicting some areas to get the heaviest rainfall in 500 years. And currently packing winds of 75 to 90mph. Any Setizens heading for higher ground? Praying for all those on the eastern seaboard. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Here in Syracuse, NY we will get the worst of it Tuesday. Winds up to 50 MPH and up to 5 inches of rain. That was this morning forcast . It all depends where the thing turns inland. People on the coast are going to get whacked though.
Old James |

Sigh. We could really use some of the rain here, but it looks like a clean miss to the North. BOINC WIKI |

As I live in east central Florida, Sandy has already passed me by. The center of the storm was a couple hundred miles off shore and consequently even though the beaches took a bit of a beating all that happened inland were some heavy wind gusts and a few hours of heavy rain. I just read that the HMS Bounty replica got caught off the coast of North Carolina and has sunk. The USCG has rescued either 14 or 16 survivors depending on which news feed you read. It was also reported that the captain was aware of the storm's pressence but had thought they would be able to sail around the storm on their way to their winter home in St. Petersburgh, Fl. Very sad about the loss of the Bounty...sounds like 2 crew are missing. But that is only a fraction of the damage likely to happen onshore. I pray that all affected are able to get out of harm's way until the storm subsides. Even as far inland as here in Wisconsin, we are forecast to have some rather high winds attributed to Sandy. I cannot even fathom the chaos being brought to the lives of those who live out east. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Lots of wind and rain bands in Philly towne. Atlantic City and other towns in New Jersey already under water. Do we have anyone is West Virginia or Virginia who live in the higher elevations? I would like to know how they are handling the blizzard, which I understand could get up to 2+ feet of snow out of this? NOAA just announced Blizzard warning in ten counties in that area. We are getting pounded here in New Hamnpshire. I finally got my home made generator cover all painted, and ready for assembly. The power has flickered heavily for several hours, and I did a lot of work to get things ready. I have 27 gallons of generator fuel, and I designed the cover so rain or snow won't get into the electrical outlets or generator wiring. The rain keeps coming in bands, and the wind is the same. There have been several times when the whole house shook, but we are as prepared as possible. It was a huge relief to get that cover ready! I already have tomorrow off from work, and I can finally relax through the rest of the storm. We are at 750 elevation, with no chance of flooding. I'm sure there are parts of New Hampshire that are damaged, but Rose and I, the 5 cats, the 13 snakes, and the iguana are just fine. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Syracuse dodged the bullet. We only had winds up to 50MPH but My rain gage is not even at the 1/2 inch mark. We had some scatterd power outages but not many. However a line fell off of a transformer and affected 3 houses. Mine was one of them. But my 10K generator kicked in. Blurf you got it worse then we did. Hope you made out OK.
Old James |

Condolences to those who did not make it through the storm. Safe here in Philly. Did not get the extra heavy rain that some parts of the city got, but plenty of wind in Mt. Airy neighborhood in the northwest part of the city, just below Chestnut Hill. There are some tree limbs down in the area, and I saw the PFD rope off a house caddycorner from me on another street this ,morning, don't know what was happening there. There was some flooding in the city, but I don't know how bad. City is still shut down, major highways are back open, Philly I'ntl is open. Center of storm came within 10 miles of Southwest Philly. Off topic, James Sotherden, used to live not far from you. Grew up in Ithaca and graduated H.S. in Rome. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Keep us posted Pete. Yeah, From what little I've read online and seen on the TV news on NBC4, trees are down in CT and have knocked power out and Sandy reached as far as one edge of Lake Michigan itself, now that's one big ass storm... We never lost power and today it's just cloudy/drizzly. Wind is not an issue. Turned my machines back on @ 7:30am |
