Message 1271146 - Posted: 13 Aug 2012, 16:16:28 UTC - in response to Message 1270363.

Scientists have just announced that they have invented a new means of distributing information. It is no bigger than an Ipad, fairly lightweight, does not need batteries or an internet connection, and holds a permanent record of what you have read, that you can refer back to time and time again for free.

They have called it a book.

Talk about new technology;) I'd rather have an E-reader though. Also light weight but contains over a hundred books.

Anything that can get people to read a book, Whether it be an E-reader, smart phone, or a computer is a plus.

Id rather hold a book, Newspaper, Or magazine in my hands when I read. Its the smell of the ink the feel of the paper, Its something I cant get from a screen.

Dont get me wrong, I have no qualms about reading an article online. Its just if I want to relax its a book.

You have a point there James. You can't compare a screen with the smell of a real book. It's like comparing an Email with a written letter, much more authentic, from the good old days. Sometimes I wonder when the evolution of technologie will stop. If it ever stops...God knows what inventions still have to come.

Someday we wont even need e-readers. We will be able to have the data fed directly to our eyes, or even worse directly into our brain.

Same here. Except when it is printed on glossy paper, and the ink comes off on my hands......

I have science fiction (from the 1980s) on my shelf where most people have a USB-type port at the base of their skull - hides nicely under long hair. Plug in a small wi-fi connector and you're linked to the net.

I wonder if whoever wrote The Matrix took inspiration from that?
