Vic, try an up-turned weighted-down bucket over the top of one of the clumps.
Leave it for a week and then see if that clump of weeds has died off. Make sure it's
a bucket that does not pass any light through it.

All I have are white plastic buckets, It'd likely walk away on its own out here, one way or another...

Devils grass is interconnected on the root level, wouldn't work and the roots extend far and wide...

Being white means it might still pass some light through it. Try opening up a black bin (trash bin) liner. Then lay that down over a clump and put some weights around the edges to keep it from blowing away. The exercise is to see if killing off their light source eventually kills of the weeds...it normally does.

I guess walk away on it's own, too slangy, someone would steal the bucket, in any case it's a shared root system.

black bin (trash bin) liner

Meaning a black plastic sack that you line your trash bin with. Open up one of
them and lay that down over a clump of them weeds. Weight it down and leave it
for a week...no one's going to steel that from your garden.

You'd be surprised out here and yes I know what a trash bag is.

Devils Grass wiki wrote:
It has a deep root system; in drought situations with penetrable soil, the root system can grow to over 2 m deep, though most of the root mass is less than 60 cm under the surface. The grass creeps along the ground and root wherever a node touches the ground, forming a dense mat. C. dactylon reproduces through seeds, through runners and rhizomes.

I have some in my yard. It is hard to kill with a selective herbicide but Roundup crabgrass will do the trick.

There is a possible way out for you. First line rocks up along the edge of your space, and then put a few clumps of stones randomly inside of the outline of rocks that you set down.
There you go you now have a genuine Japanese rock garden, add different plants and oddly shaped stones as your heart desires.

You don’t even need to mow the darn thing.

Good thing too, because rock gardens tend to wear out lawn mower blades rather quickly.

When steering a ship, the command is -
left hand down a bit, I think?
It looks to be another POETS Day
on which we rhyme things a little, before heading away.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues
