On Youtube I can see that participants on seti@home can look at moving coloured images of the signaldata. Where can I find these images? I can't find it in the BOINC manager. Seeing these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kG4xpM47uE images is a good motivation! |

go to tasks, click on one of them, then on the left hand column of the screen there are a few options. click on show graphics and the screensaver should appear. |

be careful because you appear to have GPU WU's which will cause problems if you attempt to view WU's when concurrently run Wu's on the GPU that is displaying the work In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Hai John, Thanks for your explanation but I am beginning to think that I am looking for nothing more than a simple screensaver rather than streaming soundwaves from space. I was highly intriqued by the idea that I could look to streaming images of the soundwaves. The only thing I see know are a couple of rules just like they apear when you are downloading music. Maybe I am expecting to much but I will continue to help the Seti-search. |

Hai skildude, Also thanks fore your info but I don't really understand what you mean. I think by GPU you mean General Processing Unit, but I don't see what kind of problems possibily will occur on my brandnew "state of the art" laptop. What you mean by WU is a big question for me. Is there a Chinese general climbing into my laptop? I hope you will give a explanation. I will be happy to learn from you. |

GPU = Graphics Processing Unit, the processor on the videocard that shows all and everything on the laptop's monitor. WU = Work Unit. The actual task that Seti@Home is running at the time. When you do work for Seti on the GPU only (application v6.09), it won't be showing the Seti screen saver or graphics as this application didn't come with a graphics application as when the original CUDA application was released it was highly frowned upon to do graphics at the same time as doing intense calculations on the same piece of hardware. So the project chose not to distribute a graphics application together with the CUDA (GPU) application. There will be a graphics application with the application running on the CPUs, it'll be with v6.03; so when in BOINC Manager, check which application version runs (it'll say it somewhere), then you will only see the graphics when you choose v6.03 apps. The screen saver will only show Seti work when the Windows screen saver is set to BOINC and then only when v6.03 apps run. |

Beste Ageless, Thank you for your answer. I've found it. It was quite easy. Click in BOINC -work-project, select a project en choose graphical display in the left menu. Now I can watch the signals and stay up for the whole night to be the first to find the next "wow"! |

Now I can watch the signals and stay up for the whole night to be the first to find the next "wow"! Don't do that ;) (if you are serious and not just kidding) You'll be crazy or you'll be dead - you may spend century or millennium. They do that watching/hearing only in the movies. Even the Wow! signal was NOT found in real time by watching some screen, it was found in the morning when browsing the printed on paper night signals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wow!_signal There are already Billions of "Signals": http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sci_status.html They (at the lab) try to filter/find the most promising "Points in the sky" but the servers have trouble serving both sending/receiving tasks and search the terabytes big database to compare and find repeating Signals. Hai BilBg, Don't worry, I'am not going to watch signals for the rest of my life. I even don't think that I will "find" such a signal and I wil not call the press when I've noticed a weird beep. Thank you for al your information. I've read it all and I am more and more beginning to understand the ins en outs of the Seti-project. |
